Mike/Sue, can't help (other than to move this thread up ;) )-- but had a related question, if anyone could recommend Prince William Sound http://www.princewilliamsound.com/580.cfm vs. Major Marine http://www.majormarine.com/alaska-day-cruises/prince-william-sound-glacier-cruise/

 

Also, I assume that, like most things in Alaska, we should be planning to reserve this in advance?

 

(In our case we're pretty much limited to the afternoon-only tour, since we arrive whittier on the 10 AM train and sail at 9:30 pm.)

I can't recommend from experience, but if you want a two-for-one deal, there's a coupon in the 2007 Toursaver for PWS for the afternoon cruise. :) They get good reviews--we're booked for August 15. Can't wait!

We will be going on this excursion: Prince William Sound Cruise: 26 Glacier Cruise | Phillips Cruises & Tours. It was highly recommended by this board. Haven't done it yet, so can not give you a personal opinion.

thanks, 26 glacier cruise is the one going to college fjords.. the othe one is going to blackstone bay glaciers.. would like to hear from folks who have gone on these trips.... mike

I have gone with Phillips and Major Marine, both excellent tours. I last went 2 years ago and my details have blended from the several trips. :) You might want to look for Chenega's (sp??) posts, since he has described them in detail on this board.
