I made the mistake of buying the $20 "Discover Shopping" coupon book on an RCI Caribbean cruise in 2005. And yes - I wasted time going to all the shops to collect my "free" trinket...usually a pair of cheap tanzanite earrings! I learned my lesson then.

 

I believe the OP is asking about the FREE coupon book that we were handed at Canada Place before boarding our ship. In Ketchikan I bought a $3 Christmas ornament and used a coupon for "free mug with purchase." The mug retailed for $1.99. In Skagway I bought one t-shirt with a coupon for $1.99 - regular price was $4.99. The rest of my purchases were from locals.
