Millennium Shore Ex: Exclusive Amalfi Coast, Positano, Sorrento & Pompeii

Has anyone been on this shore excursion or heard of anyone who has? It's run through Celebrity, but it involves smaller vans, etc. rather than the big buses. I like that aspect of it, but I'm not a huge fan of the price ($700 for two people!). We don't really know anyone or have anyone else to travel with, so I'm not sure if booking something private for two would make sense. Additionally, I like the comfort of knowing that if we're delayed, the ship won't leave without us! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Gavin-

Go to the Celebrity Roll Call Forums, click on Millennium and then find your sailing. You'll find all the info you need for the tours and probably a group to join as well. We sailed this itinerary twice. The Amalfi Coast is Paradise.

Gavin - I agree with the above recommendation....based on the great experience that we had, if you can connect with others on your roll call who would like to share a van (6-8 people) it is much more reasonably priced than Celebrity's van. There are very reputable tour operators who get rave reviews on the Europe board .... and who make sure that their clients return in time for sailing - usually 6 p.m. for a 7 p.m. sailing. Cost would be in the vicinity of 80E/pp with 8 people.

Enjoy your Med cruise! :)

We usd these guys http://www.driverinrome.com/ for tours in Rome and Florence/Pisa.

Our driver-guide was Daniele, very energetic and informative young man. Looks like they have tours in Napoli too:

Designed for guests who wish to enjoy an overview of the Amalfi coast, visit the picturesque village of Positano, explore Pompei, which is the most important excavation in the world and shop in Sorrento, world's summer resort that attracts people from all over the world. Skirting the bay of Naples ,in the shadow of Mt. Vesuvius your vehicle sets out from the port on a scenic 1 hour relaxing drive to Pompei.Ironically one of the ancients worlds worst disasters preserved time in Pompei, where you will experience life as it was in 79 AD.Infact with the eruption of mount Vesuvius in 79 AD the city was buried 20 feet below ash and lava until excavations began in the 18 th century. Once on site you will have 2 hours to tour on foot ,gaining an insight into lives of ancient romans as you stroll past baths, heaters, temples, markets and forums. The next stop will be the famous resort Sorrento. You will discover a village that is brimming with character and overflowing with picturesque streets, scenes and charming people. It was here in Sorrento that greeks and Romans found inspiration for their art and industry , and it is here that you will find an extraordinary collection of wood works, mosaics, furniture and porcelain.

You will then proceed along the Amalfi coast to Positano, where a picture postcard comes to life , a patchwork of flat and domed roofs and vine-covered stairways tumbling down to meet the gentle curve of beach. Enjoy time at leisure to explore this elegant spot with it's designer botiques, shops and seaside cafés. Return to pier.

If you find people who are interested in this tour too it will be much cheaper for you.
