Casino Question

I recently went to Atlantic City after not being there for many years and was shocked to see a slip of paper roll out instead of hearing the sound of coins falling. They also don't take dollar bills anymore or coin.

On my last cruise, I had a card that would download your winnings onto it.

But if you didn't have the card, you could still use coin, dollar bills etc.

Is Carnival moving towards what they did in Atlantic City or all must have a card to play?

Thank you - Diane

You can use your S & S card but you don't have to. I chose not too, I wanted to hear the coins jingling out. This was on the Inspiration and it could very well be different on each ship. However, there were not pieces of paper coming out, it was cash and the machines did take bills.

Just got off the Legend and you can use your S&S card in the slots to earn points and to bank your winnings if desired. You can still use cash to play and cash out with coins if you wish.

I actually like the player's bank system so I don't have to carry around a bucket of quarters.

For anyone else interested you assign a pin# to your S&S card so only you have access to those funds in the Casino. You can also make cash advances against your S&S card right at the machine (a 3% fee is added).

Coins are going away, it sure is fun as a player, but is very expensive for Casinos to maintain proper coin levels in machines, paper is the wave... sadly.

Glad I have a great collection of Carnival dollars to go with my other casino coins I have collected...

Thank you so much for your replies. I am happy to hear that you can still hear the jingle of coins. Not so much for me but for my daughter and her boyfriend. They were bummed when they came to Atlantic City with me and didn't have that experience.

Thanks again!!

Just a warning if anyone chooses to use the Player's Bank option on your S&S....

If you leave your card in the slot machine and it is active (ie: you've already put in your pin and collected $$) then anyone can take it. On my last Victory cruise this had happened to a young women and she was hysterical! She'd had over $500 on her card, got distracted, left it in a manchine, and it wasn't there when she came back! There is absolutely NOTHING the casino can do to get your money back if you are negligent!

So again, just be sure not to forget it!:)

Once I put my card in a slot I had to enter my pin # every time I wanted to deposit or withdraw any funds in my player bank. If I pulled $20 from my card to play, and then wanted to pull another $20 out, I had to enter my pin # again. That's how it was on both the Legend and the Valor, so I'd think it would be the same across the whole Carnival fleet.

If you have credits showing on the machine then anyone can walk up and play or cash them out, but you have to know the pin # of the S&S card to access any funds that someone has stored on that card.

It is easy to become distracted and leave your card in a machine, but unless someone knows your pin # then any money you have stored in your player bank is not assessable to them. If you walk off and have credits you haven't deposited in your bank yet showing on the machine, then it's a good bet (pun intended) they might not be there when you return.

The casino will punch a hole in your S&S card and give you a lanyard to use to help keep you from walking off with your card still in a slot. I saw a few folks wandering around looking for an S&S card they left in a machine. If an S&S card is found it is often turned in to a casino host, so check at the cashiers cage if you happen to misplace your card.

There was also a lady who left a bucket with her quarters laying beside a slot and walked off. We never found out if she got them back or not, but since they weren't in the area she remembered being in, I kind of doubt it.

In any case, as obx_fintoo pointed out, be careful with your S&S card and have the casino attach it to a lanyard so you can keep close tabs on it. I even use my Carnival lanyard when I go to a land based casino where I have a card that accumulates comp credits.

That's absolutely correct. No one has access to you players bank unless they have your code. What probabley happened was that person had credits on their machine like you said and some one cashed out their credits.......

Good to know, I'll be on my first Carnival in Octobersailing on the Valor. I appreciate all the little tips I read here on CC.

Thanks!
