Knocking on Cabin Door & Running

Kudos to you, Giantsfan13!!

My DH and I are now both retired, we have six kids and now six grandchilden and although their father and grandfather always was (and still is;) ) somewhat of a prankster, he would never have done anything to distrurb others or be in a position to have to apologize for himself or his kids.

As these very rude kids were acting on the cruises, that is exactly the way they act at home.....they are allowed to act that way  by their parents. It is the same way in any public place.....children or adults acting up are not doing it for the very first time......they have had a lot of practice:p

We are not goody-goody type people, however, we were taught better by our parents, we taught our kids better, and we can only hope that they will teach their children better......(OK, off the soap box now....)

Maybe I'm an old fuddy-duddy, but I find some of the remarks here to be quite unnerving. It seems as if most are not to fond of being awakened in the middle of the night by a group of bratty kids whose parents couldn't care less where they are.But then there are several who just seem to think that it's NO BIG DEAL. This is very disturbing. I am a senior and I know what I get into when I cruise Carnival, there are kids, many of them. But that does not give them the right to take over the ship, run wild, wake people up at any hour and then think, "Wow, is THIS fun".

To the posters who responded that, they did it also, so what's the big deal, the apple sure doesn't fall far from the tree.

These are the same kids who throw stuff off the ship's decks, are loud and disrespectful at dinner, during shows, and where are their parents?. They're on vacation from being a parent. How can paents just go to sleep and not even care what their offspring are doing. Is it 'out of sight, out of mind'?

We have cruised several times with our children, and NEVER once were they a nuisance to anyone. How can anyone think that making other passengers angry, annoyed, upset, is 'NO BIG DEAL'.

Maybe, being a bit older than most here ,has made me too 'stuffy', but I pay my money like every one else, and I expect parents to have some sort of reign on their kids, and NOT take a vacation from being a parent.

Sorry, but I just can't believe the attitude of some here.

Its been my experience as a teacher for 27 years, that the parents who say that their kids are always well behaved and "NEVER once were a nuisance" to others, are usually the worst and wildest. You are making some very broad generalizations here such as "these are the same kids who throw stuff off the ship's decks, are loud and disrespectful at dinner and during shows. I played ding, dong, ditch when I was a kid and never threw stuff off of a ship, or was disrespectful at dinner or a show. But as long as we are making ridiculous generalizations, you senior types all are pushy, cut in line in the buffet, save 3 rows of seats at the shows, and fart when ever you feel the urge, no matter where you are.

We are always close to the stairs and elevators too. I never had problems until our recent Carnival Pride cruise. There were several door knocks, and three times when dirty dishes were left outside our door. By the time that I stumbled to the door in the dark, I never saw anyone. We stopped answering the door at unreasonable hours, and the problem resolved itself. On an NCL cruise one time, I had a whiteboard posted on my door (which was only two doors away from the pool). Someone kept writing little messages (like Hi!) and playing games of tic-tac-toe with me. It was harmless...and I found it kind of fun....but since that cruise, I don't put up a message board any more.

[/url] aktion033.gif I agree. Except maybe for the farting comment. As some get of age I believe sometimes they loose control:o That was my moms excuse anyways LOL!

My mother has 'fessed up to doing this, but only to her best friends.

You just can't trust anyone these days. ;)

I understand that my daughter (20-something) and my best friend (30-something) did it on our cruise 2 years ago!! Some people never grow up...think it had something to do with extended hours in Cozumel at Senor Frogs.

Has anyone ever had any trouble with other passengers knocking on their cabin door and running? On our last cruise on the Miracle, we were getting knocks on the cabin door, and when we would open the door, we would see kids running or hear people laughing. This can be annoying and disturbing, just wondering if anybody else has ever had this happen on their cruise.

Can anyone say SECURITY?

But people you're on a cruise, nothing can bother you. The cabin is small enough that it's only a few steps to the door and if you ignore them they'll go away. Just look at that ocean and breath deeply and enjoy the cruise.

A lot of people have said to lighten up and that kids will be kids and that is 100% true. The problem I had was the time of day they decided to pull their stunts. There's a big difference between doing it at 3 in the afternoon and at 3 in the morning when people are sleeping.

For those of you w/ perfect children this will not apply:rolleyes:   Kids are kids and most if not all people or at least the ones that will admit have done some sort of pranks as kids. What about toilet papering someone's house, ding dong ditching etc. I did all of those things and turned out to be a law abiding citizen, in fact I am a teacher. Just because children knock on your door and run away does not mean they are the ones throwing things off the ship, in fact it is probably quite the contrary, they are so entertained by their other game, who has time to throw things off the ship? I can't believe that some parents think their kids were so perfect, get real.

Here is another funny thing that happened to my family when I was a kid. My dad taught at the High School my sister and I went to and one morning we woke up and had about 30 different real estate signs on our front lawn. OMG I thought I was going to die from all the tears of laughter. Another time a friend of my parent's, another teacher, woke to have pink plastic flamingos covering every inch of his lawn. That was pretty funny too. I am laughing all over again and these things happened years ago. So my point is, kids are kids, they pull pranks and are very annoying at times, but this does not mean that the parents do not care about the actions of their kids or that these same kids are the ones doing the really bad or dangerous things. I happen to think not. Oh and by the way,the Disney Hotel is also a great place for knocking on people's doors. My cousins and I had great fun doing that.:D

I have no problem with kids being kids but why on earth would a parent allow a 10 or 11 (or 15 for that matter )year old child be out and about in the middle of the night, running the halls on a cruise ship full of who knows who anyway?

Knocking on doors at 10 is one thing, at 3am is quite another.

And if it is an adult doing the knocking at 3am (Carlos and Charlies nothwithstanding) they need to be spoken to by security.

We've never had this happen at the cabin door, but on one criuise the people in the next cabin came in every night plastered and would fight about how much money the hubby had spent that day either on the bars or in the casino and banging would start on the wall next to my bed. I figured after that it would be nightly, so when I would hear them come in I would just busy myself with my shower, clothes organizing for the next day, etc. until they calmed down. I almost reported it, however, they really seemed to have problems and I did not want to make their baggage mine since we were next to them for the week.

I find that way more disturbing than kids & door knocking - I hate it when adults get into their room and decide that they need to start yelling at each other (usually in a drunken state) at 1 or 2 AM. Last time that happened we had to catch a 7AM flight with the kids to Disney so at 5 AM when we got up I made sure they knew we were there!!

It happened to me one nite, too. And it was young adults - I just laughed and went back to bed. Seriously - it's a cruise. Our motto for cruising is 'have fun no matter what'. When I am relaxed it is almost impossible for me to get mad. And I love to see other people having fun and laughing.

I have done my best to raise my children with self respect

- as well as respect for others.

On behalf of the remnant Civilized World, I thank you for your child-rearing efforts.

Other would do well to follow your example, and not rear potential Ugly Americans.

I can't believe the uncivilized behaviour I've read about, on this thread,

but I guess I should
