I have been told that you can take the shuttle into town and purchase the tickets there. Then they take you and bring you back. No excursion needed.

That is what we did. The bus drops you at a "flea market" and you can purchase the tour there. Plus the tour leaves around 10:00 so you have plenty of time to shop or look around, and it is only a bout 3 blocks from the beach where the $1 Coronas are.

Transportation is included. Tour leaves and returns to the flea market.

 

I think that the company is Out of Progreso.
