Carribean Princess Review Sep 9 - Sep 16

WE were aboard Sept 9-16, 2007. We really enjoyed the dining rooms. Horizon Court was okay in a pinch, but I did find that the way the buffet was laid out was not logical. We enjoyed every dining meal thouroughly and the dinner we had at Sabatini's was fabulous and well worth the upcharge. Back to the buffet....I know that alot of people don't even go to the dining room at all, they always eat buffet. They are missing the class and culture of the cruise altogether in my opinion. I am sure once they get the new menus ironed out, all will be up to par.

 

We indulged in the champagne breakfast on our balcony and there was more food than we could eat in a day. We saved some of it for a snack in our fridge. We got 8 plates of food!

At Sea – Day 6

 

Weather: Hot and Sunny- seas calm

Dress: Formal

Menu: Lobster and Prawns, Pheasant

Caribe: Noon, Oriental Buffet; Dinner, Lobster Claws, King Crab Legs, Beef Wellington, and items similar to DR Menu

 

The final review will be somewhat short as I just found out I have to go out of town on business tomorrow, but I won’t leave out anything I believe may be helpful to the reader. I will just omit those things related to my boring lifestyle.

 

All in all a routine day at sea. This was the day of the cooking demonstration that is held in the Princess Theatre, followed by the tour of the galley. The Big Kahuna, Executive Chief from Corporate did the demo as he was on-board supervising the implementation of the new menus.

 

He prepared a dish of sea scallops, a crème brulee, and a third dish I can’t remember. As always I found the cooking demo interesting and entertaining. The tour of the galley is a quick walk through and there was not much activity that was visible. The one impressive thing was the cleanliness. It gave me a level of comfort that everything was being done in a safe and sanitary manner.

 

Special Note: Thanks to Joseph ( “One More Cast” ) and his cohort Chef Jeff (“Seacuracao) for incorporating his excellent reviews of the food. My notes and frugal comments did little to provide the insight readers need to get a clear picture of the new menu items. We are all fortunate to have the insight of these two experts. Thank you very much.

 

Later that day was the Maitre D’s Wine Club ($25 fee). We all attended the wine tasting and it was the same as always, they served the exact same six wines as a year ago. I know it is difficult to change the menu on a regular basis, but come on guys, you can’t find six new wines? Each person also had a plate of hors canapes with six to eight selections.

 

Two bingo games, one in AM and one in PM, as it was an at sea day.

 

Today was the closest to the pin golf competition and my friend Len one the gold medal…he was the only one who showed up

Princess Theatre Afternoon Movie: The Holiday

 

Dinner was good, they had escargot, but it was not listed on the menu. Make sure if you are a fan, you ask for it on the second formal night. The lobster tails and prawns were good, the prawns were as big as the lobster tail. Although some may say the lobster tail was as small as the prawns. Depends on how you view life.

Explorers Lounge: Comedy Cabaret with Philadelphia Plowden

Skywalker’s: Retro Flash Back and Non-Stop Dance Party

Club Fusion: Ballroom Blitz Grand Final Show Case and Princess Pop Star

Atrium: Champaign Waterfall

Casino: Low Limit Gaming, Slot Tournament

 

Princess Cay – Day 7

 

Weather: Mostly sunny and hot

Dress: Casual

Menu: Sorry, didn’t make any notes and I can’t remember :o

Caribe: Creole Cookery

 

I won’t write about Princess Cay as there is more than enough info on these boards, good, bad and indifferent. It was a nice day, seas were smooth for tendering back and forth. All in all I think everyone enjoyed the day, despite the fact that tomorrow we disembark.

 

The shipboard entertainment was a summary of what was presented during the week. The entertainers who were still on the ship performed in the various venues.

 

Bingo: The $2,500 prize was won by a young lady and those that went twice a day for the entire cruise were surely disappointed.

 

I filled out comment cards giving positive feedback for our waiter, the head waiter and our room steward. Extra tips were given to the room steward, waiter, assistant waiter and the head waiter

 

Disembarkation Day 8

 

 

Living in south Florida I chose the option of “Walk-off”. Meaning DW and I had to carry (fortunately roll) all our luggage off the ship. This was GREAT!. We didn’t have to sort and pack our clothes indifferent suitcases in order to leave our luggage outside our stateroom for pick up by the crew.

 

Being 10 bottles of wine lighter ;) we consolidated every thing into three pieces, two large and one small roll-aboard. We were required to be in the Island Dining Room at 7:15 AM. We headed down around 7 AM and there was already a small crowd. At exactly 7:15 AM we proceeded to the gangway, it was a piece of cake and I was in my car leaving the garage by 7:30 AM and home by 8:15 AM. I loved it.

 

 

All in all it was a very enjoyable cruise and we left a deposit on a future one.

I have a question.

After reading your summary of each night's entertainment, it looks as though Princess does one cabaret/vegas-style/musical show on a 7 day voyage? Is that right?

Every other ship I've been on did 2 big shows for 7 day cruises. I'm a sucker for the costumes and the performers!

Sorry I wasn't very specific. They have several production style shows. The first night the Princess troupe performed as part of the welcome aboard show which wasn't a very big production but there was a lot of singing and dancing. After that there are two other big shows on different nights, Piano Man and Carribean Caliente, both of which could be classified as production shows.

Oh my god! I was reading the entire thread to make sure that escargot is still on the menu one night. Fantastic! You are a mind reader to mention to ask for it the second formal night.

 

since I have traditional dining, I may start putting my request in early!

 

Your review was extremely well done. lots of details and yet not too long!

Great thread and review, thanks!! You and Joseph have helped me map out my nightly forays into the dining rooms. Last time in May was my first, and I missed a lot of stuff being so overwhelmed my first time aboard ship!!

I am revisiting this thread to take notes tomorrow. Will make a meal out of the escargots:D

Promise to bring a detailed Culinary review to the boards after Halloween!!!
