Garment bag as carryon?

You would be wise to check with your airline - personally - not via e-mail.

The airlines do not follow the same policy.

We have seen people approach the entrance to the ramp with garment bags and were stopped and told that they had to be checked. They gave the people a stub and their garment bags were taken down the ramp, put on the conveyer belt and thrown into the luggage hold.

Better yet, check their website and print the information and take it with you, that would be better than asking someone as you can get differing information. If you are on AA, you can trust my answer because I do work there and I looked it up on aa.com to make sure!
