Hello all I am on OV2 for two weeks from 20th Feb and when we stop at St Vincent we are thinking of visiting the pirates of the caribbean film set which i understand is still in place. Non of the ships tours quote it as a visited place and i was wondering if any body has any advice or experience on getting up to wallilabou bay? (I think i spelt that correctly!) and what its like. It appears there is a reasonable bus service but is the best way? Any help or advice would be appreciated.

on getting up to Wallilabou Bay? (you spelt it correctly!) and what it's like.

It appears there is a reasonable bus service but is it the best way? ===> Doubt it!

I just got back from the OV2 Coral & Calypso (Northern) leg

and although we didn't go thru St.Vincent, I live in nearby Barbados

and spent mucho time in St.Vincent during the late '70s and early '80s

particularly on their Leeward coast - where the film set is located.

I'm sure there will be many taxis as soon as you exit the pier area

all dying for your business.

If I were you I wouldn't 'rely' on the local bus service..

It's not that far by taxi/car that you can't get to Wallilabou and back

before sailaway..even if the roads are twist-turny

and you'll get to see a fair, representative chunk of the island, too.

Going beyond Wallilabou gets a bit 'hairy'

(driving conditions up over Cumberland Hill aren't the best)

but I don't know how adventurous you are.

____________

You can do it

and our group booked a private chartered powerboat

that took us by the Pirates set -and the the Falls of Baliene....

Now that could be a seriously nice day!

You'd travel up the Leeward(West) Coast of the greeen island

until the volcano is looming over you almost

by which time all signs of human habitation have disappeared

and then you beach at the Falls

(I use the term 'beach' as in go ashore - nothing more)you'll see..

and walk upstream about 300-400 yds. to the pool which the Fall feeds into.

Water's a bit on the cool side, depending on the time of year

since it's coming straight down off a 3,000 ft. high mountain.

I've done the Falls of Baleine trip three or four times

- you'll never get tired of it.

Good day. Very close-to-Nature - Go for it!

We just visited St. Vincent two weeks ago. We tried to get Wayne but he was booked. We ended up with FantaSea. The captain also worked for Wayne. Fantasea and Wayne are brothers!

We went to the volcano, had lunch at the Pirates of the Carribean set and snorkeled. It was a nice day.

http://www.fantaseatours.com is their website. You will likely hear back from Kim who was great to deal with.

She asked for a deposit and I sent her my credit card details. They will charge your card in the EC$ equivalent to US$. To avoid currency conversion charges I arranged to pay her cash on arrival and gave her our credit card information just in case we were a no-show. This worked out just fine.

I understand they have three boats. Our crew was Hardy (or maybe Harvey) and Charles. They were wonderful and took very good care of us.

Wayne from Baleine Tours has a new email address now. If anyone is interested, it is, baleinetours@hotmail.com

I just talked to him on the phone as we are planning a tour for next January with him. We have taken this tour many times in the past and it is always enjoyable.

No deposit required and he is very reliable and meets you right at the end of the pier with his boat and we have always had a fantastic day seeing the coastline of St. Vincent and enjoying lunch at the Pirates of the Caribbean Movie Set.

I visited the POTC Film set a few weeks ago and went by taxi from the cruise port. It took about 50 minutes to reach the set and the taxi driver charged us $25 for the return journey, very reasonable.

I was overall very sorry to see the set in such bad condition:confused: . Before leaving the u.k I had checked the set hotel website and said it was going to be restored and a museum placed at the site. To be honest it is only a matter of time before the set is gone. This is very sad for St.Vincent as is a real good tourist attraction. I was still pleased to have visited it and took some pictures there and at very little expense.:)

Bear in mind that movie sets are not built with long-term viability in mind!

They're assembled as cheaply and quickly as possible

functioning safe enough and looking realistic enough

for the duration of the filming and nothing more!

How long it been now? Three years? four?

That means three of four drenching rainy seasons, termites, vines etc.

Even if someone started doing something about preserving it right away

the rot's already set in, trust me....Nature takes over very quickly in the tropics!

Give it another 5-10 rainy seasons and vines will cover the lot

and the termites will collapse the whole thing.

Dust to dust..ashes to ashes.

Doesn't take long!
