car rental codes

* If you have a AAA card, it is the most dangerous travel weapon in your wallet. You can do plenty of damage with it at Hertz. Use the 'club code' to get a straight 10 to 15 percent off the rental, then find this month's coupon codes (free tank of gas, $x off, etc.) in the AAA magazine or call for them. Book online for less hassle over the coupon/clubcode combo - you CAN use them both but desk agents tend to disagree.

If you don't have a AAA card: get one - it's worth every penny.

* You can drudge through the coupon sites for codes, but it takes a while and only gets you so far.

* Many Enterprise stores will just give you the 'Insurance Company' rate if you ask for it and explain that you're fixing your regular car through an insurance company and they only gave you a check.

* If your company has an account, use it to get a better rate.

* If you have a military or government ID card, ask for a military or government rate.

* Avoid airport locations if you can - they're tax hell.

* Last resort: Use smaller no-name rental companies they're cheaper because they don't advertise...

Yo-

Have you looked at http://www.priceline.com ?

What I do - is look at several rental sites on the internet (Thrifty, Hertz, Alamo, etc) to get an idea of what the rentals are going for - then go onto Priceline and offer 60-70% of the lowest rate - and usually get it - and most often from Hertz-

BTW - minivan rates are some of the highest-
