1st time, thinking of Sovereign of the Seas w/child

Hello, we are planing our first cruise ever! We are looking at Sovereign of the Seas in mid Sept., but have some questions.

Is Sept a bad month due to storms/hurricanes?

We are also concerned that there will not be a good kids program since most are in school at that time. Our daughter will be 9 and doesn't play video games. She likes arts/crafts, water and is highly active/adventures

Any help/recommendations of other ships, and tips are appreciated! We have looked at Disney but they are so much more.

Thanks,:)

1st time on a cruise but widely traveled on land.

No one can predict the weather, or when a hurricane may hit! That's why those "fall" cruises are cheaper than other times of the year!

A nine year old is prime for the AO activities--she'll have a blast, and you'll probably never see her!

The sovereign is a good ship but does not have some of the bells and whistles of newer and larger ships. Some consider the ship small – I just call it smaller. There is Johnny rockets, which the kids (and my husband:) ) seem to love.

Please be warned that the Sovereign standard inside and OV cabins are very small. (122 sq ft) . We did 3 to a room (only once) and it can be tight. The secret is packing light and keeping the room straightened.

There generally seem to be a nice size group of children on board. As our kids are grown, we generally sail when most schools are in session and are amazed at the number of children on board.

As for the weather, we sailed a few times from August –December with weather an issue only once. The ocean temperature will be nice and warm.

Enjoy

I've sailed on the SOS twice, once near the end of Sept. Loved the ship (hated the tiny cabin), and we had perfect weather. Be aware that Sept is at the peak of hurricane season, so be prepared to sail an alternate itinerary should a storm threaten south Florida or the Bahamas. We have been very fortunate the last couple of years; very few storms. Let's hope that continues! Have a great cruise!
