OneAnnM19608 Posted March 9, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 9, 2008 If we didn't want to get off in port, is the pool still open? How about food? Spa? thanks
Sue L Posted March 9, 2008 #2 Share Posted March 9, 2008 the pools and such will be open as well as at least some of the restaurants and the spas usually have port day specials which are much cheaper. The stores and the casino will be closed while in port but the rest of the ship will be about normal.
cb at sea Posted March 9, 2008 #3 Share Posted March 9, 2008 Staying on the ship while it's in port is actually pretty nice--no big crowds at the pool--sort of feels like a private yacht!
ehfl Posted March 9, 2008 #4 Share Posted March 9, 2008 Casino and shops are closed. Pretty much everything else is open. As part of the permission they get to be able to dock at a port, they must agree not to compete with the local shops or casinos. The governments want cruise ships to bring money into the country. vowsatsea Posted March 9, 2008 #5 Share Posted March 9, 2008 The only thing that closes is the casino and shops...everything else runs as usual, and it's great. Going in the aft pool on the Carnival Miracle or on the waterslide while in port was GREAT!
kitty9 Posted March 9, 2008 #6 Share Posted March 9, 2008 Not all the bars are open when you're in port. The one at the pool will be, but not many of the others.
lady_cruiser Posted March 9, 2008 #7 Share Posted March 9, 2008 Everything but the shops and casino is open on the ship while you are in port. Most people take advantage of Spa specials while in port. The dining room isn't crowded and you can almost pick out your favorite chair near the pool since 3/4 of the ship is on shore. We love port days because we can always find a nice quiet place near the pool to read a book.
ILoveScotland Posted March 10, 2008 #8 Share Posted March 10, 2008 In August 2006 DH and I stayed on the NCL Dawn while in port in Bermuda even though we'd never been to Bermuda. We were stressed out and chose to relax for the day. It was great to have a seemingly empty ship. We loved it. And as has already been said the casino and shops were closed and perhaps a bar or two, but everything else was open.
mckinna Posted March 11, 2008 #9 Share Posted March 11, 2008 It's one of the few times that chair hogs won't be as much of a problem!
