bravescots53 Posted March 21, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 21, 2008 I booked our first Carnival Cruise for this September on the Victory without knowing smoking is allowed in the staterooms. I will be traveling with someone who is extremly sensitive to cigarette smoke. Carnival assured us the rooms are thoroughly cleaned between each sailing and there should be no lingering effects. Has anyone who has sailed on Victory ever noticed the smell of smoke in the room? Also, how are the public areas? We have no problems with people who smoke we just need to avoid the areas that may be smokey. Thanks for your help.

SunnyinMA Posted March 21, 2008 #3 Share Posted March 21, 2008 I've never noticed anything lingering in the room but if on the off chance you do, notify your cabin steward and they will do a deep cleaning of the room and take care of it. If your sensitive I would avoid the casino and possibly the cigar bar. Not sure if there are any other bars to avoid...possibly the disco?

vacruizer Posted March 21, 2008 #5 Share Posted March 21, 2008 The Victory was really well marked as to the smoking and non-smoking areas. We actually thought the ship was less "smoky" than the newer Liberty. It may have changed by now, but the Victory actually still allowed smoking on one side of the atrium and at one side of the aft pool which I noticed both were non-smoking on the Liberty. But we were smokers at the time (woo-hoo - I can now say ex-smoker!) and tended to notice the areas. Even though I smoked - I never smoked indoors at home or in enclosed areas and actually tended to notice smoky rooms a lot - the casino on the Liberty was miserable.:( I've never noticed any smell in the rooms on any of the three ships I've been on (we did not smoke in the room, though.) If you are sensitive - watch the Capers for which side of the open decks allow smoking and stay away from the cigar lounge (that one should be obvious!) and depending on your crowd - the disco and/or piano bar. LHP Posted March 21, 2008 #6 Share Posted March 21, 2008 Yes, the disco is a designated smoking area. So is the piano bar, casino, sports bar, cigar bar (of course) and one side of the pool area. Carnival went with the designated smoking areas a couple of years ago to stop folks from walking from one venue to another with a lit cigarette in their hand...thus limiting the exposure to children. The only time a designated smoking area does not allow smoking is IF Camp Carnival is using the room during the day. Then no smoking or drinking around the kids. The Red and Blue lounge is non-smoking as is the small theater AFT (I can't remember the name) where they have karaoke and the Atrium Bar. Sometimes, if the piano bar player does not smoke, they will have no smoking signs around the seats that are at the piano itself, but the rest of the bar is smoking. While you can smoke in a cabin, there is not suppose to be any smoking in the hallways. We sailed on the Victory in Sept./Oct without a problem. Of course with 9,000 oxygen tanks...thankfully there wasn't a lot of smoking going on...or it could have been one heck of a boom!! :D
