Half a day in Freeport...what to do?

What to do?

Is the straw market (if they have one) there as fun as the one in Nassau with the fakes all over?

Anything of interest?

Did Freeport once on DCL 6 years ago. Stayed on board, enjoyed a mostly empty ship, no lines or crowds anywhere. If I went back to Freeport, I would do the same. And I pass that recommendation on to you.

We will stop in Freeport on our next cruise and are planning to go to Our Lucaya Westin/Sheraton area (Lucaya Beach) and then to Gold Rock Beach.

Our understanding is that Our Lucaya is the place to go for a part of a day.

Have to agree about staying onboard for that short of a time, especially if you have other ports to shop in. The travel time to get off the ship, get a taxi, ride to Our Lucaya and do the same coming back will take at least an hour or more... then you want to be back by 4... so just stay on and have a wonderful lazy day... check with the spa - they usually do specials when in port. If you where there for a few days or a long day the island is wonderful and has so much to see, but the port is not near anything.

To the OP, if you have never visited Freeport for yourself, I would recommend you to go and experience it for yourself. I will be going for the first time in a few days and I will do just that, check things out for myself...everyone may not have the same opinion. If I decide I dont care for it much, then next time if my ship sails there I have the option to stay on the ship or try something different.

I understand what you are saying and would agree that trying new things are always a good thing to do. If you are going to do an excursion thru the ship by all means have a great time. The ONLY reason I (and others) say what we do about Freeport is that there is NOTHING at the pier. It is one of the only ports I know that is in an industrial area where cargo ships come in and out and anything resembling the beach/tourist area/casino/shopping/eateries/etc. are ALL a cab ride away. You cannot get off the ship and wander around because all the areas are off limits except where the cabs pick you up. It's the same as an airport... nothing there and a cab ride to anything. When you have 4 hours in port and it takes a minimum of 20 min. (with no wait for passengers in front of you) to get from your cabin to the taxi... which will wait until it is full before leaving... and a 15-20 min. ride to the beach/shopping/etc. that does not leave a lot of time for exploring.

So by all means get off on your own and when you get back let us know how it was.
