Cooler questions

I've been reading and learning a lot on this board for my first cruise. However, I have seen this addressed in general questions, but nothing has been Princess specific.

First, I've read that you can take water and such on with you, but I am a Pepsi fan, can I pack this to take?

Then, can I check a cooler with my luggage?

Thanks for all the help on this. I just want to get it cleared up before I get there. (yes, planning a little in advance, I know:rolleyes: .)

That was one of the questions I had when booking my cruise. My boyfriend and I booked a mini-suite on Ruby Princess for next year. We wanted another couple to go with us but she is addicted to Mountain Dew and refused to go without Mountain Dew for a week. I was relieved that Princess does allow you to bring soft drinks and there is no limit on how many you bring. :)

I bring Pepsi and water every cruise. I have never brought a cooler though, just put a couple in the fridge every night for the next day. The fridge will hold quite a bit actually.

Have a great cruise.

The fridges hold loads. Ours had one bottle wine, two large bottles of water, two small bottles of water and about six cans of soda - oh and a small tupperware beaker of milk for the early morning tea and afternoon coffee (we took along a travel kettle). The tea and coffee in the buffet are awful - dining room coffee was very good on Sea Princess and you can get specialist coffee from the bars - they do a coffee card - and they are excellent but costly.

Can someone tell me if you can buy bottles of concentrated fruit squash drinks in the US. We can get them in UK. We are on Ruby in January ex Fort Lauderdale and our grandchildren drink this squash all the time. We will not be able to take any through security at Gatwick so will have to try and buy some in the US - don't fancy packing it in the hold luggage in case of spillages.

Sorry, but I have not ever heard of concentrated fruit squash drinks sold here in the U.S. There are many other powered drinks sold in bulk and as individual little packets to 'take along'. So, I am sure you will be able to find something over here to fit the grandkids liking, But fruit squash (by name) is escaping me as I have never seen it before.

Are you talking about "Roses"?

If so, you likely can find them in the "gourmet" area of a supermarket...try the Publix store, right near the pier area...lots of people stop there to shop before getting on the ship.

I cannot believe that someone would give up going on a cruise (or any type of holiday) because they couldn't drink Mountain Dew or Pepsi or a particular brand of juice! I guess to each his/her own.

My son and DIL much prefer their children to drink one of our sugar free 'squashes' - they drink it very diluted - just flavoured water really but they are used to it. That is not to say they are not allowed the occasional cola or pepsi but at 4 and 2 years of age, not too much of it. If we cannot get the squash we will try some of the powdered alternatives. I assure you the lack of squash would never deter us from taking the holiday:D

Chrysalis - if it is the Roses lime cordial that you are talking about, I don't think that will be suitable - much too sharp and too much sugar as well, I would imagine but very nice mixed with some vodka:D :D

OK...I know what you mean. In north american, we do not use the word "squash" in the context of a drink, but you will find many to pick from at the Publix store I mentioned, either in bottles or small/medium containers. They are not concentrated...rather they are consumed as packaged, but if you want to water them down, they that would be easy to do.

You will have no worries finding what you want.

Try to find things like Crystal Light drink mixes, they would work perfectly for the younger ones. Sugar free, but don't taste like they are. And they come in either a small bulk container, or in little individual tubes to mix with a bottle of water. Perfect for travel and they come in several different flavors. Publix will definitely have an assortment of many different brands and types.

Thanks All

I'll make a note to go to Publix before we leave Fort Lauderdale. I recall I did actually try some of the Crystal Light sachets last year and I liked them - as long as I can get blackcurrant flavour, we will be okay.

Chris

You will have trouble finding Ribena or something similar at a supermarket close to the pier.....you would have to search for health food stores or a british foods specialty shop to find it.

I wonder if M&S has a powered form?...might be worth looking into.

I think what you are looking for is Torani syrups. These are used in coffee drinks ( ie. vanilla, creme de mint) as well as puting them in sparkling waters. (strawberry, lime, etc). In fact they have black current. You can find these in major supermarkets and in some large liquor stores.

Here is there website.

Dorset cruiser,

I can imagine that you will find it hard to get squash on an American ship, We have had holidays in America with the kids several times and the first time I went I searched a Walmart the size of Wembley and couldn't find anything - They had loads of "fizzy stuff" and also sold capri-sun which I settled for in the end. After that I made sure I packed a large bottle of Robinsons.

One drink I remember as well was called Gatorade, can't remember what was in in, but kids liked it. Wonder if you can get that on the ship? But I'd still pack some Robinsons!

PLEASE, don't take a kettle with you onboard. That is definitely NOT allowed not to mention Very DANGEROUS for all onboard. Starting a fire would not be worth a good beverage!

Patti

Patti, there are those kettles that are very safe and there is no problem at all using them in your stateroom. In fact, our first sailing on the Sea Princess, our mini suite provided a kettle and coffee and tea making items. These were left in the staterooms as it was one of the first sailings after the ship came back from P&O who actually provide them in the staterooms.

I would say no problem, as long as it is one of the auto shut off types. We take along our little coffee maker on each sailing, never had a problem one and that has been for at least the last 15 cruises with Princess. Of coarse it has all the safety type features on it.
