Balcony Rooms Above Casino/Bar

Hi everyone,

 

thanks for all the info on this board! I have a question about noise levels, we are not exactly light sleeps but what type of noise would we hear from the casino/bar if we were in a balcony cabin above it? Just trying to gauge where the right type of room would be. We are first time cruisers and we aren't sure what to expect, hallway noise not an issue, elevators aren't either. I have read that you should avoid having your cabin below restuarants etc because of scrapping chairs but I haven't found posts about being above common areas.

 

Any input would be appreciated.

We had a balcony cabin above the casino bar on the Glory. At night we could hear some music, but it wasn't enough to keep us awake.

Don't get above the lounges. It's very loud in the cabins above them.

Most times, nobody is walking on the overhead.

I wouldn't worry too much about being above the casino, as it is usually relatively tame in terms of noise level, etc. People are too busy concentrating on their gambling LOL..

We were above the casino on Valor. We could hear someone with a microphone up to around midnight, but I don't recall any noise after that. It was better than being above the main show lounge - there, the sounds from the lounge came right up the stairs and into our cabin. We got to experience the shows twice.:rolleyes:

I would do your best to get a room sandwich between to levels of guest rooms.

I agree, cabins sandwiched between other cabins are the best bet.

The answer to your question will vary on the cruise ship you are selecting as the ship design often varies. We had an aft balcony and we were above the lounge/bar. The bass would thump away into the wee hours of the night. In the morning it was all quiet. It was an annoyance and depending on how well you sleep it may not be a problem. We made it work but we would not book there again. Some other factors you may want to consider are:

 

1. Type of ship propulsion. Some ships vibrate more closer to the back.

2. We had a stewards clean up station directly across the hallway from our room. It was far noisier than the lounge below.

3. Some ships have a very thin "roof" or deck and I have seen restrictions on when people can jog in certain areas as the thumping bothers those below.

 

Always try to search cruise critics for comments by others who have actually booked a cabin where you are thinking of booking. You will be amazed at the amount of information that can be obtained.
