Carnival Sensation - Nassau

Okay, we we are looking at a cluise on the Carnival Sensation which has a rather long stop in Nassau. Any advice on what to do? Also, anyone know if Dinner is still served in the main dining room while you are still in the Nassau. Looking at Carnival's site, it appears you are there from one day until 6:00 A.M the next morning. I just think it would be a long time in on port.

We did this in March... yes it is a long time but will allow you to do all sorts of things. You can do Atlantis if you want and still have time to do "Real" Bahamian things. Formal night is that night if you are doing the 3 day cruise. The casino onboard opens at 7 even though you are docked. Many wonderful places to visit after dark.... just be CAREFUL. No need to go walking down a dark beach or road for that matter. Senor Frogs stays open while ships are in port.

We did some stuff in the morning, came back with a nap and did afternoon "drinks' and wouldn't you know it we came back, ate and never left the ship again... but had a great time. Saw some marines(just back from overseas) the last night and they told me they got on the ship about 30 min. before it left... had wandered down from Senor Frogs which told them the ship was leaving!

We had an overnight on Nassau when I was on the Ecstasy a number of years ago. I enjoyed it as we were able to hit the beach in the morning, come back to the ship for lunch, do a snorkeling trip during the afternoon, and then head back to the ship for a break and to have dinner (dining room is open). We then went to the Atlantis to look around and see a comedy show. As I recall, when we returned to the ship, the midnight deck party was still in full swing.

It was our only port stop, but we were able to do a lot since we were there so long - and it is nice to be able to come and go as you please all day long. The first time I was there, we were only in port until 2pm, so we were limited in what we were able to do.

If you are not interested in doing that many activities in one day, it is also a great opportunity to take advantage of what is offered on-board. The pools and Spa will be less crowded throughout the day.

Agree with all, just did it last week on 4 night. It's not formal night on 4 night trip though. We ate breakfast on board and were lazy for a bit until the "crowd" got off that morning. Then walked around before walking to the beach @ British Colonial. Then shopped some as we walked back. The stores start to close around 5:30 so if you plan to shop around the pier, keep that in mind. Then we went back, total intentions to eat dinner and get back off, head over to Atlantis to walk around. It didn't happen though. We just enjoyed hanging out on the ship and doing shows and things.

There's plenty to do on board or in port, you wont lack for ideas when you're there.

We did the 4 day Sensation twice in the same year.

We loved being in port for such a long time, freeing us up to do as much or as little as we wanted each time.

Both times we got right off the ship first thing after breakfast and did Zydecocruisers great 2 hour walking tour.(while it is still cooler in the morning)

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=332656

Most of the main sites are within a few blocks of the ship and easily visible from the deck when you dock.

Then we went to the British Colonial Hilton (which is at the end of the walking tour and right at the end of the pier and the ship) and took advantage of their wonderful facilities and pool and beach for a $15 daypass.

When we have enough sun and fun, it is a 5 minute walk back to the ship from there to shower, change and grab some lunch or dinner.

Then we took a cab over to Atlantis to check out the resort and Aquarium.(everything over there is extremely expensive, like $12 for a bowl of Mac and cheese, so plan accordingly.)

Another time we went to the Adastra Zoo and had a great time.

(we both much preferred that to the Atlantis Vegasy vibe)

There are tons of intresting things to see and do to fill up 24 hours easily.

Enjoy.

Bill

Thanks for posting this. I just today booked the 3 day Sensation and was curious about spending the night in port. I've never had that long in one port so I thought it would probably be pretty cool not to have that nagging question in the back of your head "do we have time to........."

I'm pretty sure I'll be sleeping soundly onboard when the ship departs at 6am the next day.

I am so excited.

I will be on the sensation in July also. I wanted to know what night life is available near the port. Bars, night clubs etc.........

Just read threads below and you will get all kinds of info.... near the dock is Senor Frogs which stays open as long as a ship is in port and people are drinking.. you can see it from the ship.

  • 3 weeks later...

we did this in June, and ended up doing the yellowman boat in the early afternoon, then going to the HRC and Sen Frogs.

We went back on board around 7 or 8 and just hung out around the ship till late.

They have the deck party that night, so it was a blast.

I had such a great time on that cruise I just booked it again for Aug.

Oh, and they had their labor day holiday that day so all the stores were closed. But we did get to see some of the Junkadoo in the am before the party boat.

We just returned from a 3 night cruise on Sensation and the night in Nassau is the formal night. We booked a snorkel trip with Stuart Cove. They picked us up at the dock at 12:15 and we were back around 6. They take you to 2 sites to snorkel and then to a third site to watch reef sharks. It was an awesome experience. We were actually in the water over one shark for about 10 minutes while it circled a bait box they dropped. I booked it through their website after reading other good reviews on CC.

My 22 year old DD had to go to Senior Frogs later that night too. You have plenty of time in port to do several things.

Enjoy!

IMO, the Sensation 4 day to Freeport and Nassau is one of the best 4 day cruises out there. :)
