CA traveler Posted June 25, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 25, 2008 Does Oceania charge a fee for cashing Traveler's Checks? I have not used them in years but it seems having cash may be a benefit on this cruise. We have a number of private tours arranged. I'd rather take Traveler's checks than cash if I do not have to pay a fee to cash them. Thanks, Susan
DaveFr Posted June 25, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 25, 2008 Susan, On our Oceania cruise in January, there was no fee to cash traveler's checks into US dollars. I'm not sure if there would be a fee to cash traveler's checks into a foreign currency. Dave
CA traveler Posted June 26, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted June 26, 2008 Thanks Dave - I just want US dollars for my traveler's checks. I understand that fees are imposed for exchanging from one currency to another and for using an ATM. Did you exchange your traveler's checks for dollars at the purser? I also understand that there is a 5% charge for getting cash from the casino on your ship board account. Susan
DaveFr Posted June 26, 2008 #4 Share Posted June 26, 2008 Susan, We cashed a traveler's check in the casino. There is a 5% fee for getting cash from the casino and putting it on your shipboard account. We brought the traveler's checks for gambling money. Luckily, we had a good run in the casino and only needed to cash one traveler's check. :D Dave
rogfam Posted June 26, 2008 #5 Share Posted June 26, 2008 Susan, I called Oceania and they said no fee for cashing U.S. dollar to dollar travelers checks. Gather we are using similiar private tour companies who want to be paid in dollars. Hard to believe the cruise is just over a week away. CA traveler Posted June 26, 2008 Author #6 Share Posted June 26, 2008 I guess it all depends who you speak with at Oceania. My sister was told that they charge a fee. I think someone who has been on the ship knows more than the admin people in the home office. I hope there is no charge! See you soon. digby Posted June 27, 2008 #7 Share Posted June 27, 2008 I no longer take Travelers Checks because there are ATM machines EVERYWHERE you go.
