Mmmmm - seem to be getting conflicting info here or maybe it's me!

Poker to me means a live cash game or tournament with a dealer - no computers involved?

ANyone able to confirm this?

Thanks

Pat

Just off the Caribbean Princess and no live dealers. Poker Pro is used and worked very well. The 1st night out they had a low stakes tournament with a 20.00 buy in/ winner takes all. After that all other buy-in tournaments were 100.00 with 1st, 2ns and 3rd getting a share. I never played in the 1/2 games but they were held whenever people wanted to sit.

It was tournament play on our last Emerald cruise in February. Took a couple of firsts and a second.

The buy-in then was $25 or $50. I don't know whether I'm going to play with a $100 buy-in.

Princess has gone to the poker Pro tables. Computer..but don't let that stop you. Easy to learn.

Thanks!! :D That's what they had on Carnival and it was really fun to play.

Not sure that I'd play for a $100 buy-in.

Deeliteful... don't let the fact that its a computer versus live dealer turn you off. Everything else is the same, except you don't have to tip the dealer.:D ..If you're unfamiliar with a poker pro table, here's how it works..

You get a players card from cashier, you load it with cash like a prepaid credit card. On the Dawn it was $200 max. You have a pin number.

You take a seat at the table, slide your card into your display screen. Put in your pin and in the cash games, choose how much you want to buy in for. It was a 1/2 no limit on the Dawn with a $40 min buy in, might be different on other ships.

You can play heads up or wait for more people. The touch screen in front of you gives you all your betting options. Your hold cards are in the lower right hand corner face down. To expose them, tap the screen. the edge of your players card works the best for this.

You need to protect your cards just like in a live game, but be careful.

While covering my cards with my hand, I hit the all-in button by mistake...oops...You have to tap the screen twice for just this reason, so its not THAT easy to screw up.

The computer determines who's in the small and big blind and the game begins. Flop displayed on the monitor in center of table.

Its better that a "live" dealer in several ways. Its faster, no mistakes, and no tipping.

When you're done, you log out and your card balance is adjusted.

I'm not sure of the time limit but.....just like in a "live" no limit cash game in a poker room, where you can't take winnings off the table until you are thru,, you can't log out and then log right back in with a lowered amout.

Hope this helped and good luck on the felt.

Yeah, but there's no chips to play with and it's not nearly as social as live games. Also, watch the rake on the cash games w/ PokerPro. It's excessive IMO.

You're right! The social aspect is not completely gone, but you do spend most of your time looking at the screen and not the other players.

So you only play against other real people, not the computer? But the computer does all the dealing??
Correct! It takes a little getting used to, but it works well for what it is.

A big plus is that the computer knows the rules. Before PokerPro, I experienced many onboard dealers who just were not aware of all the hold'em rules. A casino manager had to be called over to rule on many hands. This doesn't happen at all with the computer.
