art auction

Recommended Posts

Has anyone bought art at the auctions held on the ship? Any problems getting your art work? Is it really worth the money? Have you priced similar prints off ship?

Thank you for your info in advance!

We have purchased at the auction and received the art quickly, no problems. We haven't priced specific pieces after the sale on land, but we buy to hang and view rather than as an investment. Unless you're buying originals or signed artwork, the value is more or less in how bad you want something rather than what it means to others.

I purchased a framed piece while on the Explorer during Christmas. As of yet I have no picture and nothing but excuses from Park West. A refund was offered but never came. DO NOT buy from these guys!

We purchased two large Thomas Kincaid prints on our last cruise. We've priced them in the galleries and, even after they were framed, I saved about 30-50% off the Kincaid gallery prices.

The pieces will not hold any great value and if I tried to sell them on E-bay I'd be doing good to get my investment back out of them.

My advice is to only buy what you like. This is not a real art auction and you're not going to find anything that's going to appreciate in value or could be considered an investment.

They are fun and they have a lot of interesting works. You can have them frame them for you and ship them that way for an additional price or you can have them shipped without framing and pick your own framing at home. We experienced no problems getting our prints and it took about 45 days if memory serves me correctly.

We'll go again and if something comes up that we really like, we'll make and offer. I recommend that you learn a little about the value of some of the works before bidding. One place to shop is E-bay. See what you like and get an idea of what it's going for there. That might give you an idea of how high to bid. You could always go to some of the local galleries and price lithographs if you have one or two near you.

I couldn't agree more about only buying what you like and not as an investment. We have learned a lot about various artists in the auctions and have fallen in love with some of their works. The service from Park West has always been great. I much prefer them over the Princess auctions. When we have had any problems, Park West has always responded quickly. We have compared prices and have found that some were very well priced and others just OK; but if the work is something you can't live without, don't wait to get home because you might not be able to find it or get as good a price.

We have purchased several pieces from Park West, and their service has been excellent. We did have a problem on piece not coming with the others that we had ordered. I simply made a phone call, and they sent the work shortly thereafter.

I am tempted to purchase a Max for an investment piece. I love his work, and I truly believe that it will appreciate in the future.

On Carnival, Park West will do a mystery bid, do they also do this type of bid on RCCL? This seems the best way to get a Max.
