2sightseers Posted July 25, 2008 #1 Share Posted July 25, 2008 Are taxis the only way to get from the ship into Amsterdam upon arriving? When we were in Rome there were several reliable shuttle services available from airport to city and then from ship back to airport. We will be staying in Amsterdam for several days after cruise and wonder what would be the best way to get into the city from the ship and then to the airport from the B&B after our stay. Thanks

Thanks No you will see no shuttles in port. Your other option will be tramnr. 25 which leaves from next to the terminal. However depending where you go you may have to change trams at Centraal Station. Also if you have much luggage it is not very convenient and please watch all your belongings at all times. On this site you will find a map of various bus, tram, and metro lines. http://www.gvb.nl/english/Pages/default.aspx Otherwise indeeed a cab, but I know they often overcharge, so check your rate. Price might be around E. 20.- for a city-center hotel or E. 30,-- if not too far from city-center.

Since there are 4 of us (with luggage) I think a cab will be the most convenient way to get to the B&B. Are they easy to find at the port?
Ine Posted July 26, 2008 #4 Share Posted July 26, 2008 Thank you so much. Since there are 4 of us (with luggage) I think a cab will be the most convenient way to get to the B&B. Are they easy to find at the port? Depending how many ships are in port, yes you will see them lined up. Since not all cars however will hold 4 passengers with luggage, you might need a bigger car. ab0si Posted July 29, 2008 #5 Share Posted July 29, 2008 Just for clarification: The port for Rome is really nowhere near Rome. The Amsterdam port is really in Amsterdam. Hence, there is not much reason for a shuttle service. As mentioned, finding a taxi capable of handling four passengers and their luggage can be difficult. You might want to consider: 1) Pre-arranging a van to meet you. 2) Have 2 or 3 of the passengers take the tram and the other 1 or 2 go via taxi with all the luggage (the trams are great, but not when schlepping a lot of luggage). Your host at the B&B should be able and happy to give you directions.Or, post the name and address here and I'm sure Ine would be able to do so (Ine is a real treasure). From the B&B to the airport: Again, I am sure your host knows how best to do this. The choices depend upon where the B&B is located. If close to a larger hotel, a scheduled shuttle might be a reasonable idea. If close to a train station, that might work well (the train lets you off inside the airport terminal). Rare HeinBloed Posted July 30, 2008 #6 Share Posted July 30, 2008 We booked Dagtoertaxi for our shore excursion in Amsterdam. Makes a very nice impression so far. Will tell you how it was once we are back from Amsterdam next week. Marius also accepts other tours. He has a van which can accomodate passengers and baggage for four. For Airport transfer we booked Schiphol Airport Taxi who was very liable and waited for us without charging waiting time. They were much more cheaper than the official taxis from Schiphol Travel Taxi (Connexxion) who can be found on the website of the airport operator. We cancelled the trip with Schiphol Travel Taxi. Although we had paid insurance (2 EUR) Schiphol Travel Taxi did not want to pay back to credit card and ask for account information. Somehow it was a little complicated with the Schiphol Travel Taxi to get back my money as they required pre-payment. With Schiphol Airport Taxi we just paid after the tour was ended. Very nice and clean Mercedes-Benz Station Wagon with a enough space to accomodate four adults + baggage for our EURODAM-cruise. Thanks If you're berthed at the main Amsterdam cruise terminal then you're only 10 minutes or so walking time from Centraal Station - come out of the cruise terminal building, turn right, and keep walking. The point about this is that there is, or certainly used to be, a tourist information office at the front of Centraal Station, and I think they offer an accommodation service as well. So if you haven't got your accommodation pre-booked, this might be the best way to find it. Then get a taxi from Centraal Station to the accommodation - lots of taxis at the station. As for getting to the airport, the easiest way would be to get back to Centraal Station and get a train. The express trains take just about 10 minutes or so for the journey, it's very cheap, and the station at Schiphol airport is underground, actually below the main terminal building. You emerge into the public area inside the main Schiphol airport building.
