Have you brought one?

How many in your cabin (more than two? w/ children?);)

I put in to it == Toothpaste/brushes, hair clips, bandaids, toilitries, some stuff you may not need but have to bring. Allocate a few pockets for each family memeber. Pens, markers for dailies. I fill mine before travel and pack it ready to go.:)

Just back from the 8/9 sailing, I bought one for the first time for this cruise, will never sail again without. I bought it at Target for $10. It fit perfectly over the door inside the bathroom. We were able to store tons of stuff, kept us from searching for things. Kept some sanity in the small cabin. I felt like I was always looking for something (I always feel that way about day 5 on a cruise), but never searched for toiletries.

The best $10 I ever spent.

Did not take tape, took sticky notes for cabin steward, take a power strip, have a great time.

Use to to store: sunscreen, hairbrushes, moisture lotion, beach/pool sandles, sunglasses, shower cap, hair spray, deodorant, baby powder, casino card, etc. I also get a clothes pin bag that hangs for storing things.

oh HELLLLLLLLL yes!!!!! :D We use the ones that hang in the closet. And we actually put shoes in them! LOL

Also its not masking tape but duct tape. I have a travel size roll, but so far have never needed it. Of course, as soon as I stop bringing it, I'll find a use for it

I picked one up for our second cruise and have been using it for every vacation (land or sea) ever since. I keep it filled with first aid kit, sun tan lotion, glasses, contact lenses/solutions, makeup, shavers, deoderant, hair supplies, cards, jewelry, sewing kit tooth brushes/paste, etc. I keep over our bedroom door when we are home to re-fill. When we are ready to leave on a trip I fold it up fully loaded and it fits right in a rolling back pack. When we get to where we are going I just pull it out, unfold it, and hang it up. All set with no hassle. Best investment I ever made. We are a family of four and it works perfectly for us.

Loved my over-the-door organizer so well that I was considering getting one for our travel trailer until we sold the trailer. We used it to keep all of our toiletries in -- some pockets for my stuff, some for DH's stuff, some for joint items.

However, I've since found an organizer bag that works much the same way and will hang up on a hook that has multiple zipping plastic pockets. That way, we don't have to pack and unpack it -- we just fold it up and we're good to go! Ours came from Penney's, but I've seen similar ones at the LLBean website.

It's not quite as essential on the newer ships, which do have some storage room in the bathroom for toiletries, but for our first cruise on the old NCL Sea it was a great suggestion.

I bought one last year before our Azamara Journey cruise. Unfortunately, the hooks didn't fit over the door very well and we ended up taking it down after it fell down a few times.

It's SOUNDS like a great idea and hope to remember to bring it and find it more useful on the Dawn. Maybe we got a bad 'style/model'. Thinking back on it, it may be that it would have stayed in place if we had more/heavier stuff in it.

Masking tape/duct tape is great for emergency repairs when something falls apart. Also for securing packaging for liquor or other fragile purchases.

I picked up an 8 pocket shower caddy at the dollar store.

Me too! lol...you and I have done so many things alike for this trip, it's getting hilarious.

For the OP, as you can see, we went with a little smaller version of the over-the-door organizer. There are only two of us, so I don't think we'll need anything larger.

Have taken and used duct tape. I use bright colored tape to mark my luggage for easier identification. Also, used it to secure my alcohol purchases in bubble wrap before packing to come home.

You should get the style that hangs in the closet like this...

I got this one at the Container Store for 10 bucks. Its hard to tell from the photo but it has a hanger hook at the top that fits any bar.

I bring one on every cruise.... if it doesn't fit over the door, I just hang it on the bathrobe hanger on the back of the bathroom door. It's great for holding all of your bathroom essentials plus like other ppl said first aid items, post it notes, markers, etc. Also, since it only cost me a buck I always leave it behind. While you're at the dollar store: also remember to pick up an insulated travel mug -- great for getting coffee back to your room to enjoy on the balcony (Piping hot) and you can have a decent sized cup rather than the little ones they provide. I also mix some contraband alcohol to bring up on deck to enjoy poolside but I didn't want to get THAT thread started again LOL! Have a great cruise :p

After a pre-cruise shopping trip to Wally World, my DW showed up with one of those organizers.

I said -you're kidding; what the hell are we going to do with that thing?

DW said -No really, everyone on CC says to use them!

I stand corrected.

We hung it over the bathroom door and it held all the stuff that normally fills the top of the sink, the little shelf over the sink, the shower shelf, and everywhere else in the cabin odd things pile up: vitamins, brushes, combs, creams, hair spray, sun block, deodorant, q-tips, first aid stuff, OTC medicines - you name it! Found myself mid-cruise standing there organizing it; who'da thunk I'd get so excited over a pocketed, plastic thingy. I may have to hang one in my car... Wish I had a patent on the damn thing. Don't leave home without it.

we did not use an over the door organizer on our first cruise and we probably will on our next cruise but more than anything we( my sister and i) wished for a few safety pins...would have helped with a few small clothing issues...my sister did solve her issue creatively w/ a bobby pin

Doesn't this hangy thing get in the way of the towels?

There are three of us in our cabin (our DS is now 7), so there are lots of little things to be kept up with! I actually bring two small mesh ones. One for the bathroom (hangs on door hook inside bathroom) stuff. The other is for the other stuff in the cabin: sunscreen, sunglasses, extra batteries, cords, etc. Whatever will fit.

And does it stop the door from closing?

Yes, it stopped the bathroom door from closing when we hung it on the back of the door on the Jewel. The inside of the bathroom door has towel racks, so it wouldn't work there either. We hung ours on the outside of the closet door, where it worked well.
