It has changed numerous times, but at this point you will need a passport as of January 1 2009.

see above poster, than google homeland defense/passports. Cruising to Bahamas equals raised seal birth certificate and picture ID, like drivers license. Flying in, requires passport until the dates mentioned, probable will be extended at this rate. Please see the official site so you are not one of the horror stories, get the info right from the horses mouth, lol. Have a great time, and don't trust a chat board with such an important question. "But THEY told me so", carries no weight. the govt. changes these rules frequently.

I thought the date was June 1, 2009? And at that point you wouldn't need a passport if your cruise left from one U.S. port and returned to the same port.
