The "Upsell" Fairy Failed Me

I cannot believe it. We missed the "Upsell" Fairy!! NCL called my cell phone (which is 2nd on my profile), rather than call our home phone 1st. I don't have my cell phone on while I am home. They called 2 days ago! It was $700 total to move to the Owner's Suite.

Ah well, like UnclePaulie said, we're happy with the stateroom we booked, but still........I look forward to those calls! LOL!

Gosh, I would think the cell phone is the best way to reach you. But of course, some folks keep the cell phone off when they are not using it.

Sorry they missed you. I know the deals go quickly. We got an upsell upgrade on our NCL Majesty Bermuda cruise for $40 from inside to outside. The fairy is very kind sometimes!

Sorry to hear that!! Just a suggestion... while it's too late this time... I have the option to forward my cell phone when it's unavailable... so if it's off or I don't answer it fast enough, it goes to my home number. It works well, since I don't have message capabilities on my cell but I do at home. :)

Salty Dingo-Maybe you'll get lucky and get upgraded to a Handicap Room next time! Oh...never mind...you already reserved that room even though your not HC.

OP-That stinks...but...maybe next time. Good luck.

Isn't the upsell fairy smart:D ? He/she knows that if they can get you into a penthouse just ONE TIME, for many of us it seals our fate and you don't/won't sail in anything less on future cruises.

Thank you fairy for upselling us over 5 years ago - it's been the "suite life" ever since. Now, we book straight into a suite (we've also been upsold to an A3 from an AB) and take chance out of the mix.......

IMO (having sailed in suites on HAL also), NCL has the best suite perks of any mass market cruise line - we do love the butlers!

What are the suite perks? $700 upgrade seems a little steep- I would think if you were willing to pay that much more for a cabin one would do it at the start. I am a new cruiser so I don't know about all the ins and outs yet.

Thanks for the sympathy rub everyone! Snooze ya lose. My cell phone will be on in the future! LOL!

$350/pp upsell from BA to Owner's Suite (AA) for this particular sailing equates to about $2200 v.s. $4500 and that's applying the 1/2 one passenger discounts we received against both categories. Without discounts, the Owner's Suite is $2999 per person. I'd think it's safe to say the upsell would be substantial savings.

I'm new to NCL, any chance of them calling me or do they only call on past cruisers?

Sure there's a chance! Their offers seem to be at random, without preference to Latitudes. Perhaps they look at ways to release a particular stateroom, when passenger capacity gives them room to move folks around. I've no insider information; just observations from posts here at CC.

When we got the upsell to a Penthouse, there was 4 of us booked in the inside stateroom. Did they pick us to make us more comfortable? I don't think so, but who knows.

I get far greater battery life turning it off when I'm at home. It's kept my battery reliable for extended periods doing it this way and the battery has never had to be replaced for years now. However I'll have to change my routine for future cruises. :D

Just have your calls forwarded from your cell phone to your home phone, or vice versa, that would work.

Enjoy your cruise!

When the upsell fairy phones, do they just leave a generic question, or do they indicate why they are calling? I happened to call NCL last week with info regarding my DH, and someone returned my call & just left a message about their 2-day sale.

I hope I didn't miss an opportunity:eek:

I've never gotten a call from a TA or NCL with an Upsell offer.

However, by observing the chatter on CC, and then contacting my TA, I was able to get a minor price reduction; and then, just a few days ago and weeks after final payment, a 2nd e-mail resulted in an offer to upgrade from Inside to BA Balcony for $50pp on a 13 day cruise --less than $4 per day extra. And we paid bottom dollar for the Inside!

So don't sit there waiting -- call/e-mail your Agent!

The perks you get with a suite mean something to some and nothing to others. So that is what will determine if it's worth the extra money. For us, we love the perks.

To name just a few, you get a bigger stateroom, you get priority entrances and escort onto the ship and when tendering in port. You get the services of a butler and a concierge. You get upgraded bath accessories. The biggest perk that we enjoy is a new one and that is being able to have breakfast and lunch in Cagneys. That alone is worth EVERY penny to us.

Most people will say that if you never have a suite you are ok. You never miss what you never had. I can tell you though, once you have one, 99% of the people are hooked. Just like having a balcony. I would never consider taking a cruise if I could not at least have a balcony. Some people could care less if they did or didn't have a balcony.

We just got the upsell call yesterday for our Dawn cruise on Sunday. I grabbed the upgrade from an AE to Owner's Suite.

Now I hope I won't be too disappointed in our balcony cabin on the Sapphire Princess in December. :o :D
