atldeltajohn Posted December 9, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 9, 2008 We will be sailing on the SOS in Jan. I am so excited about this cruise because I will actually have money to do the extras. First question, What night is the best to do Portofino's? We like to do the Formal nights in the MDR, and we like to make all the big good shows. Any ideals? Does anybody when the Spa offers the best deals on this intenary?? 5 ports followed with a Sea day. One more stupid question... Do they do the horse race on the pool deck on this cruise. Just wondering because it only has one sea day. Thanks
johnbob7 Posted December 9, 2008 #2 Share Posted December 9, 2008 ......and I wish I could answer your questions (which are not stupid, BTW). First time sailing this itinerary myself, and despite a fair amount of board research, your questions are ones that I will be interested in hearing responses to as well. So thanks for asking:) Also, we will be sailing with you in January, feel free to chime in on the Roll Call at: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=788656 Also, have you registered for the Meet&Mingle? You can do so at: https://secure.royalcaribbean.com/ccEntry.do Happy pre-cruise planning! bobj
kyriecat Posted December 9, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 9, 2008 I read that the formal nights are Sunday & Thursday so if you want to hit the dining room for those, you need to book another night for Portofino. The shows will vary by sailing so it's hard to say what a good night would be. If you are concerned about missing a show, book Portofino for a time that corresponds to normal dining hours. I've read that the bookings for the alternate restaurants are hard to get once you board since RC opened them up for online booking. Hubby and I used to go to Chops/Portofino on the first day. They would normally have the dining room menus available and we'd pick our date based on when the MDR menu didn't look as appealing. I guess those days are gone. :( The spa normally offers the best deals during port times. Sometimes they will offer half price specials, but you have to give up you sightseeing/beach time. They also offer other specials during the week, like any 3 mini-services for $99 or so. Those are normally posted in the cruise compass. You can go by the spa when you first board and see what specials they have then. I haven't seen horse racing on a cruise in about 3 years, but I haven't been on Serenade. I think RC stopped doing the races.

lovemylab Posted December 12, 2008 #9 Share Posted December 12, 2008 We were on the Serenade last November and went to the specialty restaurants when we were in Antigua and St. Lucia (at that time the murder mystery dinner was done on the Tuesday). We made reservations for 8pm (had we gone to the MDR we would have been eating at 8:30pm anyways). We didn't miss any of the shows.
