Black Jack players; Caution!

Was on the Fantasy a few weeks ago and observed a Casino card game called “Fun 21” appearing to be Black Jack. This is a multiple deck game apparently without any Queens which could increases the odds of the house to win. Don’t know if this “Fun 21” is on all Carnival Ships, so be aware if you are a Black Jack player. ;)

I've seen Fun 21 everywhere, on cruise all ships, even in Vegas. The rules are posted right there on the table. There are other special rules that help out the players, as well as the house.

We actually played Fun 21 on our last cruise. It was sort of fun, but ultimately too weird for me (I am a diehard blackjack player).

It has been on all the ships I have been on and some land based casinos

It's a close relative of Spanish21 - though not as many special bonus options - and you can't Re-Double in Fun21, thus the house advantage is a little higher than standard BJ.

BTW --- after a couple of bad streaks at that game (which I still play a LITTLE bit occasionally) I started calling it: "F U 21"

You must alter your strategy:

A great game. Armed with the chart from the wizard mentioned above, it can be a quite profitable alternative to regular BJ. Playing the basic strategy with the chart, you only give the house a 0.82% advantage.

yeah, I wasn't paying attention and sat at a fun 21 table and lost 50 in about 15 minutes!!! I was not happy with myself. Can't blame them it was my fault.

And that's exactly what they count on. It's not totally your fault as the dealers and bosses WILL NOT TELL YOU that the queens are gone. Like a big state secret or something. The automated misinformation interactive screen in the Royal Flush Casino on the Splendor is right across from the Fun 21 table and when you press the button for info on the game, the lady mentions all the bonuses, but does NOT mention the missing ladies. So, the first thing I do when anyone sits down to play is ask them all wide eyed; "You know all the queens are gone out of the decks, yeah??" Sometimes they look at me like I'm stupid, sometimes they say thanks and move on, and sometimes they actually know the basic strategy and play well. Which means that usually we'll all be playing well. Invariably, if you don't play Spanish 21 strategy you will lose your assets.

Tom, The first chart is the one that I use. DW and I bet anywhere from 25 to max and we usually pound them to a pulp. I try to warn everyone that sits down to play that it is not blackjack but some people won't listen. They'll sit and donate anyway and leave five minutes later all miffed because they lost their assets. Like bringing a knife to a gunfight.

25% less ten spot cards = different game than blackjack. Study up.

So yes folks, beware of that 'Fun 21' for it could make you some money if you come armed with the right weapons of strategy and skill. If you sit down at this table and you play your regular blackjack strategy, well that's kinda' like wearing baseball cleats to play basketball now, isn't it.:p
