Happy2Cruz Posted November 10, 2004 #2 Share Posted November 10, 2004 We were on the Navigator on 8/7/04 and although Labadee was one of our favorite stops, yes--there were lots of jellyfish and starfish. We were in the area near the waterpark & saw several people get out because they were stung by the jellyfish. An attendant was walking through the water scooping up jellyfish & burying them into the sand.
PTarbay Posted November 10, 2004 #3 Share Posted November 10, 2004 I asked about this a while ago. From the replies it seems to be hit or miss whether they will be there.Someone said they are very small there so they may be hard to spot.If you do a search there were a few threads about this.Try searching Labadee.Hope this helps. Jamielps Posted November 10, 2004 #4 Share Posted November 10, 2004 At first I thought maybe it was the time of year but I have been to Labadee in Nov, June, & Late Sept. They were there in Nov, & June not in Sept. Not sure the rhyme and reason to it but many time they are there.
Maria65 Posted November 10, 2004 #5 Share Posted November 10, 2004 I was there last week and we didn't see a single jellyfish on the beaches to the left of the tender pier. I did read someone on my cruise say the water park did have a jellyfish problem that day. That's on the right side. The far side of the peninsula was jelly-fish free. PappaSiera Posted November 10, 2004 #6 Share Posted November 10, 2004 Our first time there back in 2001, DW asked why there were so many plastic bags in the water as we were pulling out. Pretty much a carpet from ship to shore. Fortunately, we didn't have a problem while we were in the water.
lvcruiser Posted November 10, 2004 #7 Share Posted November 10, 2004 Was there two weeks ago and didn't see a single one on either side. We played in the water on the ocean side, where you would think they would be found the most readily.

ducklite Posted November 10, 2004 #9 Share Posted November 10, 2004 There's a product you can buy called Sea Safe. It's a sun block with a jellyfish and sea lice repellent built in. We used it a couple years ago, it worked great. Only caveat, it doesn't seem to last as long as other sun blocks, so you need to reapply a lot more frequently. Lenora1426 Posted November 26, 2004 #11 Share Posted November 26, 2004 My son was stung by a jellyfish while in Labadee last August. He was treated by the ship's doctor. There was an ugly rash and lots of pain. He was swimming by the dock.
Mac Posted November 27, 2004 #12 Share Posted November 27, 2004 I was there in September and I didn't see them but there were people who were being stung. Have been there several times in March and never saw them.
MadCnty Posted November 27, 2004 #13 Share Posted November 27, 2004 I think it has to do more with currents and tidal flows than the time of year...
HB Cruiser Posted November 27, 2004 #14 Share Posted November 27, 2004 We were there in June of "03, saw no jellies. In August of '04 we were there and saw only one, the one my wife bumped her arm with. Fortunately, it did not get her but it did frighten her a bit.
