Anyone know anything about Silver Sands Beach??? ===> Kite- and wind-surfing Mecca.

Good for swimming??? ===> Nope.

Too rough??? ===> Yep..and a bit cloudy too.

I am looking for the best beach to spend the day swimming and snorkeling...???

Silver Sands is all about windsurfing and kite-surfing

-and little else.

Snorkelling is best done on the West coast.

plus, at silver sands. you are not able to use the hotel bar without paying an entrance fee (20BDOS per person, if I recall correctly). The front desk staff from whom you have to purchase the pass are surly and take forever. You can use the pass to cover the cost of drinks etc., but the difference is non-refundable. Bar service is also slow. And the food was really poor. The many children were having a good time in the pools (the water is a bit rough for them) and some adults liked the loud music tapes.

Bottom line - definitely NOT for swimming and snorkelling.

Silver Sands can also be a bit of a 'dodgy' area.

Let's put it to you this way...

the only place on the island I ever had my car's window smashed and ripped off

was Silver Sands, albeit at night(around 8-9 p.m.)

There are better places to beach

As said earlier, if it's kite- or wind-surfing you're into

there's no better place on the island

but other than that...forget it.

Looks nice enough but..

IMHO

Silver Sands is right up there/down there with Blue Monkey/Paynes Bay

even though I hear Blue Monkey is now closed. Yaaaay!
