Lyman713 Posted January 22, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 22, 2009 Here is something new (at least for us) -- when on the Majesty last week, early into the cruise, we each asked the server for a stoli and tonic before one of the shows. The server asked if we usually drank stoli because he could offer us a bottle for, if I recall, $132. He said, after that, whenever we wanted a drink, to just find him and he will get it for us from our own bottle. Or, if we wanted, he would just give us the bottle to carry around with us. The server's sales pitch was along the lines that is it $6 per drink, so 22 shots would be $132. But the bottle is 34 shots, so you are saving money. Since we don't drink that much, we didn't take him up on the offer, plus, even if we took the bottle with us, we would have to find him to get mixers (which he said would be free if we asked him for them). Has anyone else received an offer like that while on board? Or was he reselling $11 bottles from the duty free shop? It all sounded a little bit strange to me! DMH15 Posted January 22, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 22, 2009 I have only heard of doing that with wine. They keep it in a cellar and you can have them bring it to any restaurant on board. Not with anything else though.
garycarla Posted January 22, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 22, 2009 I think you could always buy a full bottle, but not sure about the price, but that sounds right. some would call it a deal. Others would call it a rip off. Your choice.
bl4330 Posted January 22, 2009 #4 Share Posted January 22, 2009 Hi there - prior to starting a cruise, you may contact the ship coordinator and request a bar setup in your cabin. You order and prepay for this, plus tax and tip. The beer and soda prices are the same as if you ordered from the bar. The liquor bottles are larger than the standard US liter sized and making your own drinks in your cabin with this setup is still less expensive, in my opinion. Whatever you do not finish, you bring home with you. Here is what we ordered last time we were on a cruise. Worked out great. Bar set up request was process for $ 123.28. 1 bottle of Bacardi Silver rum $ 40.00 each 6 cans of Bud light $4.17 each =$ 25.02 6 cans of Amstel light $ 5.17 each =$ 31.02 6 cans of Diet coke $2.02 each =$ 12.12 6 Diet Sprite $2.02 each =$ 12.
Diamonds Mom Posted January 22, 2009 #5 Share Posted January 22, 2009 When we were on the Majesty back in april we saw that happen to a gentleman beside us. The lady explained the shot pricing and he bought the whole bottle and carried it back to his room with him. Although after he bought he looked over to us with a little buyers remorse and said how much it was...lol. Guess if you drink alot of that kind its a good price while on the ship but hard to swallow paying that much for the bottle when you do see the prices in the stores. Not sure if they only do that on Majesty or not. This was done in the evening right before one of the shows started.
