vivig Posted February 15, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2009 I am sorry for raising this question since I am certain it has been raised before. And I know that I had raised it sometime ago, however wehave decided that we are renting a car for the first time in San Juan. I currently have the Courtyard Isla Verde reserved for us...however with all the great reviews of the Marriott Stellaris I keep swaying to change our reservation. What would you do...keep the current reservation or switch to the Stellaris? We had previously stayed at the ESJ Towers and liked the area. Thanking you all in advance for your assistance,
megr1125 Posted February 16, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 16, 2009 It depends what you want....they Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde is close to the airport, the San Juan Marriott Resort and STELLARIS CASINO is closer to Old San Juan..... We walked out of the CY due to, among other things, a very dirty room and rude staff who violated Marriott Corp's basic principles of guest security (namely shouting my fullname across the lobby....) Conversely, when I went to the Full Service San Juan Marriott Resort last November when in port, I got a very nice tour, the staff was delightful....I would pick that property over the CY in a heartbeat..... As you have a rental car, I would consider parking fees, if any, as well.....
OLDSANJUANEXPERT Posted February 16, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 16, 2009 Hands down the Stellaris...much more convenient location for retsurants, beach, bar, Walgreens, Ice Cream, etrc, etc, etc, and you can drive or walk or take bus to Old San Juan. The pool area is magnificent and the hotel is great! The CY is kind of in the middle of nowhere, you will not want to walk at night out of the CY either! Enjoy! Summer Breeze Posted March 6, 2009 #5 Share Posted March 6, 2009 Definitely the Stellaris, click on my AOS review link for tons of pics of the hotel and surrounding area. Toonjie - thank you so much for your fantastic review, I wanted to read up about the Stellaris as a hotel option (you have definitely persuaded me, lets just hope I can get it on Priceline..I've never used it before) We are thinking of cruising a similar itinerary on Carnival, so I just sat and read the whole review, fab writing and photos and I wish you and your family well. Make sure you do all of your research before using Priceline. There are great deals to be had, but you need to research, research and research some more. Check out a couple of websites such as betterbidding dot com and biddingfortravel dot com.

Thanks so much and good luck getting the Marriott. Just remember to select resort level only, all the Priceline San Juan resorts are nice and even if you don't get the Marriott, you'll get a very nice resort and a great bargain! orquidia Posted March 7, 2009 #8 Share Posted March 7, 2009 The courtyard (next to the Ritz Carlton) is way more laid back and casual, has a better beach and it is quieter. Stelaris is the opposite.
ms.sunburn Posted March 9, 2009 #9 Share Posted March 9, 2009 Stayed at the Marriott Stellaris last week before our cruise for 2 nights. We booked it on Priceline for $165. I would definitely recommend this hotel. It was a wonderful stay. I thought for sure I'd get the worst room in the hotel because we booked via Priceline and the hotel was full, but they put us in an 18th floor room with a partial ocean view! Can't say enough about all of the staff. This hotel is a very well-run property.
