Passport Question

My best friend and I are thinking of taking a 4 day San Diego - Ensenada scrapbooking cruise in October.

 

I already have my passport, will she need one for this trip? I thought they changed the deadline but want to be sure.

Cruises beginning and ending in the same U.S. port will not require passports after June 1, 2009. Your friend will need an original birth certificate or certified copy, and a government issued photo ID like a driver's license.

This is correct we are traveling in the end of Sept. and were informed by our TA that the deadline was once again pushed back and would not be needing a passport

I don't doubt that your TA said this but it isn't correct. No date was pushed back because no date was ever set for closed loop cruises. Closed loop cruises have always had a specific exemption in the WHTI rules on the CBP web site. Nothing has changed.

I know that it was explained to me when we booked our Sensation cruise that even though we didn't need a passport if we got sick/injured while out of the country, we couldn't fly back into the US from a foreign port (we would have to take our chances with the local hospital). Hubby was pushing me for awhile to get my passport renewed (and named changed) so I figured What the hay and got it.

Couldn't is not quite correct. You would be allowed, but it would take additional time to get you cleared to enter the US. But, if you are in a country without alot flights coming and going, you might not even notice the delay.
