No, you really wouldn't.

My first cruise was on EOS after she came out of her last dry-dock in Sept. 2005. No one could board until after 1:00pm (and the terminal in Miami really isn't big enough to hold everyone who shows up from 10:00am). Everything in the rooms was covered with the fluff that comes with new carpets. For the first day and a half the water (and everything it was used in) tasted terrible. The mini-golf course was finally put back into service the Friday during the cruise (this was a Sunday to Sunday cruise). The hull was still being painted everytime we docked. All in all, there was just enough chaos to make me want to avoid such a situation in the future.

Congrats Xenopro! :)

I do not know the exact things they are going to do but here is my wish list :D

Varnish the railings on the balcony's. Ours was down to bare wood.

Change the bedding. We had a lumpy bed and the room attendant did flip the mattress with out much difference.

New linens would be nice too. Our comforter looked like it had seen better days.

I am going on 2/5/10 one or two cruises after dry dock.

Happy Cruising!

Nora

I find this thread interesting because of an experience I had on the AOS this past week. As you can see from the schedule, it went into dry dock when we returned to San Juan yesterday. We were at dinner one night and I asked our assistant waiter how long the dry dock would last and what she had planned while the ship was in dry dock. You would think I asked her to reveal information that would jeopardize national security. She was completely flabbergasted and upset that I knew about dry dock and very nicely told me she could not discuss it. Then she wanted to know how I knew about it and I told her it was very openly discussed online. She said that the crew was told to not discuss it with anyone and they could not even acknowledge the ship was going to dry dock. The morning we left we ran into her in Windjammer and someone else asked her about it and again, completely secretive about it and upset someone knew about dry dock.

I've never gotten the impression that dry dock was a big secret. In fact, all week on board they had a show on TV showing the Sovereign going through dry dock. Also, at each port, they were loading crates with "dry dock" stamped on the side. It was a completely bizarre and unexpected reaction to what I thought was a simple question. I personally think it's great that RCCL takes their ships out of commission to improve and repair them. Anyone else ever run into this?

It is definitely not a secret about when the ships go in to Dry Dock, as this information comes from RCCL.

What might be the problem is the crew might feel it is not their place, or their job, to discuss what takes place in Dry Dock.

Plus, it could end up on Cruise Critic and if it is wrong, that would not be good. :D

We will be on the Explorer 2/14/2010 and my wish for dry dock includes getting rid of coins in the casino and putting in "ticket in/ticket out" or banking within the casino using your sea pass card.

Thanks for the information on the EOS Drydock. I was looking into my third cruise, and first on RC as a graduation present for myself next May. I usually go with Carnival, but I thought I'd give RC a try after all the rave reviews. I know she has a few years on her, but It'll be great going on her a few months after drydock. The money I save on airfare from going to Florida will make up the cost for the balcony cabin since I'll just have to drive or hire a car from SJ to North Jersey.
