runbluedog Posted March 23, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 23, 2009 We just completed our first HAL cruise yesterday. DH was dismayed there was no draft beer available. Is this unusual or is draft not an option on any HAL ships?

Boytjie Posted March 23, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 23, 2009 It is unusual to have draft beer on HAL ships. We had some on an Alaska cruise. I was told storage is an issue.
Krazy Kruizers Posted March 23, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 23, 2009 No draft beer on HAL on regular cruises. BUT -- if you take an Alaskan cruise, on some of the ships, there is at the Lido Bar they do have the draft Alaskan Pale Ale that is brought on board. HALFans Posted March 23, 2009 #5 Share Posted March 23, 2009 My understanding is that as part of the continuing Signature of Excellence program Draft beer will be a regular feature in Mix, which is replacing the Casino Bar and Piano Bar on 5 of the R and S class ships during their refit. The Veendam is slated to be first and should be completed for an April 27 sailing. Mix will consist of 3 sections: Champagne, Martinis, and Spirits & Ales, which according to the Holland America website "...will feature an international selection of beers and premium whiskeys and brandies sure to entice even the most selective connoisseur. Here guests can drop by to enjoy a wide selection of beers on tap while watching sporting events or relax after some shopping in the nearby boutiques." This is very similar to the "Bar City" concept found on NCL's Jewel Class ships where 3 bars are situated together: * Maltings Beer and Whiskey Bar * Shakers Martini and Cocktail Bar * Magnum's Champagne and Wine Bar It is a very nice concept and hopefuly we will be able to enjoy on HAL ships soon. It seems like it will be a long time before it happens on the rest of the dam ships. :(
HALFans Posted March 23, 2009 #8 Share Posted March 23, 2009 It seems like it will be a long time before it happens on the rest of the dam ships. :( Unfortunately that seems to be the case. The first 5 ships won't be completed until sometime in 2011. I don't know what's scheduled for the Nieuw Amsterdam. Deck plans are not available on their website, and there's no mention of anything in that area (Mix, Sports Bar or Piano Bar) either.
