INeedaVacationNow Posted March 25, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 25, 2009 Our cruise ship arrives back in Amsterdam at 5:00 am after our cruise in May and we have a 10:30 am flight back home. Is it feasible to take the train to the airport? I assume we can get off the ship by 7:00 to 8:00 am. Is there enough time to take the train? How do we get from the port to the train? How long does it take if we do it this way? The cabs are really expensive so we would prefer to take the train if it is workable.

Train transit time: 13 - 21 minutes - varies due to connection from Amsterdam Centraal to Schiphol - about 6 connections per hour. You can take the tram in front of the cruise terminal to avoid a cab. If you keep left once you leave the building it's just two stops from here to the Central Station. Ine Posted March 25, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 25, 2009 It seems very close. Most airlines to the USA want you to be at checkin at least 2 houts prior. Security checks take place at the gate before departure. It will depend at what time the ship will be cleared and all passengers have paid their bill. If it is a workingday trains can be rather full since it is rushhour. Also you will have to put your luggage into and from the train yourself. Please during busy hours watch and stick to all your belongings at all times. The trainride itself takes about 20 minutes, apart from the time to get the ticket etc. Most cabdrivers will not be interested to drive you to the station because of the short ride. Walking to CS will take about 15-20 minutes. Or take tramnr. 25 (next to the terminal) or 26 in front of the terminal to CS and buy singleride tickets in the tram. E. 1.60 p.p. at the moment. Fblack Posted March 28, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 28, 2009 While a taxi is relatively expensive, we had three people and an early flight home. Plus lots of baggage to drag. The train may save a lot of cash, but I wanted the convenience and wanted a quick way to the airport, so we took a taxi. We were at the terminal in about 35 minutes from the pier.
