UK Cruisers: Travel Insurance invalidated if you go to Cozumel

Recommended Posts

It is 807 mile (1299km) so way longer then a day trip

Not for a business person...I've flown to NYC for a meeting in Manhattan, and flown back at dinner time (from Houston) all in a single day, that is 1400ish air miles each way...

NZ has cases and that is thousands of miles away from Mexico, but 10 hours +/- from Mex City or 20 hours roughly connecting via LAX or HNL to NZ...so if someone is sick and does not know it, spreading it world wide can move very quickly. Then factor in 200-250 folks on the plance for 10-13 hours that is some seriously bad exposures...

First of all you can now all take a deep breath since RCCL has suspended all stops to Mexico until further notice.

As to the number of CONFIRMED deaths in Mexico it has now been reduced to 7 - no longer the 160 as suspected.

You still have some time until you cruise so your TA should have told you to hang in there at least until the end of the week before making rash decissions.... Since you are booked in the UK RCCL would have had to make provisions for you to change your booking had they not decided to drop those ports. They have to adapt their contract to the travel laws of the countries they sell in. This sort of thing however does not happen over night since Miami has to agree to these changes which the UK brings up and in many cases their insurers and lawyer have to be consulted too. Also the time difference takes up valubale time. In the end however due to the fact that they actually sell acording to UK consumer laws they would probably have either let you cancel without cost or allow you to transfer your booking to a cruise not affected by the problem. In this particular case their US contracts don't cut it and they are tied to the UK travel laws which bind too.

I am really pleased for you. Glad you can now go and not have to worry about insurance and (touch wood) pig flu.

Have a great cruise!

:) I like happy endings

Cheers !!

And the best result of it all is we get diverted to the Bahamas instead !!

We have already been to Mexico (although not Cozumel) so a trip to the Bahamas will be nice.
