GS Room 1600

Recommended Posts

On some itineraries, this room is designated Two Bedroom Suite with Balcony (TS) and has its own pricing category between OS and GS. I wonder if they are going to change it on all the ships.

No, 1600 is a GS. The Royal Family Suites are what are being reclassed to the TS.

Not necessarily, because most people try to get hold of JS 1100. That cabin is nice too but not as big as 1602 ( doesn´t show on floor plan ) and has an angled balcony, which some people like. Fact is that 1602 has the bigger and deeper balcony and is the biggest JS you can get. The perfect cabin!

1100 and 1602 are the same size inside the cabin. 1602 does have a larger balcony, but I still prefer 1100 - I like having the better view to the side and the cross-breeze is stronger. We had 1602 in the Caribbean and I found it to be oppressively hot when we were in port. 1100 always seems to have a bit of a cool breeze. But it's really splitting hairs - they are both awesome cabins.:D

And I agree with your analysis of the pros & cons of 1600.:)

We have GS 1600 23 May sailing and are excited also. This is our first AFT and also first Alaska sailing so we chose this GS for the view.

Okay we expect you to keep it safe for us!!! And if you want, you can warn the suite attendant about the crazy ladies on the next cruise!:p

Will do! Not having the mini-bar is a plus to our budget! One too many drinks after dinner and I might buy out the mini-bar when we return to the suite! HA!

Good info on the AFT cabins! The best I have viewed!

I was able to book that elusive cabin 2 weeks ago when the new bookings opened for Radiance out of Tampa! I called the day the bookings opened within the first 2 hours or so. I guess thats the time to try and get it when the bookings are brand new.

I'm sort of excited and scared - we've never stayed in an aft cabin but we always get GS.

We found out to our cost that this GS isn't all it is made out to be:(. You will love the balcony, great to sit out there, relax and watch the wake of the ship, but think you will be a little disappointed with the actual room if as you said you normally stay in a GS, different layout to the normal GS's and lot of wasted space taken up with the entrance hall into the suite, also less closet space compared to a normal GS, bed is also on an 45 degree angle against the wrap around of the exterior curve. As another post stated, we think JS 1602/1100 are definately the BEST value Aft cabins , Still sure though you are going to enjoy yourselves, have a great cruise:)

My DW and I have that cabin booked on Serenade for 1/2/2010! LOL Take good care of it.:D

GS are about the perfect set-up for two people. Not too small not to big.

Enjoy.

You will absolutely LOVE 1554 on the Serenade! We had it in January of this year. We booked 1600 next year to try something different!!! We love Grand Suites and want to try an AFT!

We were in 1600 on the Radiance for a Panama Canal cruise, and then 1600 on the Serenade through the Alaska Inside passage last year.

GREAT room, fantastic views.......just check out the Alaskan sunset on our website!

Only complaint was with the television on the Serenade. The remote control system was all screwed up. Sometimes, you touch the volume up once, and it would immediately go to max volume. Other times, you could hold it, and it wouldn't work. Even had times when the TV would flat out die. Ended up with the Ship Chief Engineer in the room before it was over with. He said they were going to have to completely rewire the room in order to fix all of the problems. We ended up with a very nice credit because of all of the problems. I'm sure it's been fixed by now.

Best way to book this room? Book as soon as a cruise becomes available. It goes away very quickly. Be aware that the room does not have as much useable space as all of the other Grand Suites on board, but the views more than make up for the loss of space.

Have a great cruise!

Scotsman,

Be sure to check the sunsets as you head south. Our last night out had the most incredible sunset we've ever seen. The pics are in our signature link if you want a preview.

That AGS wifi sounds quite interesting! I did a google search, and didn't find anything that seemed to be related to a free wifi through them.

Could you give a link to find more info?

Thanks!

Joe

The AGS wifi was coming from a ship called the Maryann also in prince Rupert we had free wifi from the shops on the quay.
