Riviera deck

I was on the Riviera deck on Conquest and loved it. I was expecting the water to be like RIGHT there under my window...But it was still a good ways down and we had great views. It's also nice coming back from port days when your exhausted and you just hop up a flight of stairs to your room rather than wait forever for the elevators. I would stay on Riviera again for sure, no problem.

I've been debating whether to respond here or not: we've been keeping the Riviera deck a secret-wouldn't want it to become too popular now, would we!

We were on it for the first time last spring on the Ecstacy out of Galveston.

Here's what to like (besides the lower price)

*less movement, particularly in the middle. Great for those of us who wear elastic wristbands as a cruise accessory.

*Quieter. Our cruise wasn't full, so many folks were apparently offered an upgrade (or just didn't book there in the first place). Fewer slamming doors and footsteps.

*Very easy for port days: down a flight and you're walking off the ship.

*Ocean view was still very nice.

We are just back from a balcony on the Conquest on the Empress deck. Although I'm as much a fan of balconies as anyone else, there was enough rocking at the first of the cruise that I thought fondly of the Riviera deck on the past cruise.

Hope this helps!

i agree with the others. i have stayed on the riviera deck several times. the higher up you are the more movement you have. However, the more midship the less movement as well. try not to stay above or below the restaurant/kitchen or the big lounge area

Wouldn't this be more of a problem on the Main Deck (or am I forgetting how the decks are set up?)

I just got off the Fantasy Saturday and I was in cabin R157 on the Riviera deck. It was a great location!

I was midship so very little swaying. I had an oceanview cabin and like the others stated, you are really not that close to the water. The views were excellent and some nights I would just open the curtains and enjoy the ocean.

I often prefer being on the lower decks than higher to avoid alot of movement.

The only issue I had, was the noise of the engines starting up early in the morning when leaving the Bahamas. It felt and sounded like an earthquake:eek:. But I can agree on the view. It is closer to the water and it is calming. And whomever let their children run up and down the hallway at night...:rolleyes:. Other than that, it is good to have a seaband on and the view is neat on the Rivera Deck.

Note that depending on the type of ship, the Riviera Deck can be one, two or four decks under the central deck that you will use quite often during the cruise. That's were the Casino, Dining Room and Theater might be on some ships. So being on the Riviera Deck on the Miracle for instance, might be entirely different than being 4 decks down like the Sensation. Walking up or down one or two decks might not be a problem but doing 4 decks just might make a difference.

As for being on the lowest deck (just above the crew deck), I found it not to be a major problem. Once you take the elevator, it really doesn't matter if you go up or down one or ten floors. Maybe just a few seconds or so. As for the cabins, they are about the same unless you upgrade to a different type (window versus balcony).

Almost all of our cruises have been on the Riviera deck when we cruise with Carnival. We love it for all of the reasons mentioned. We love to sit in the window area and watch the wakes and waves of the ship.

For the most part, it is very quiet in these cabins. The only time we ever had a lot of noise to deal with was when our cabin was situated directly above the doors used for the tenders (western caribbean stop in Belize).

Other than that, the Riviera deck is our favorite. But maybe I should say otherwise...like - no, that cake doesn't taste good at all! Sure would hate for 'my' deck to become too crowded for me to book! :p

We were on the Riviera deck on the Fantasy and we loved it, for all the reasons already mentioned.

We're going to be on the Main deck on the Victory because they offered it to us for the same price. But still, that's only one up and we'll still have that nice big window.
