i was thinking the same thing as another...that this OP didnt venture from the port as everyone else found belize wonderful pretty much...am looking forward to this port in jan.....and the OP seems to be the only one who found it UPD, which is found in almost anyplace (certain areas)

I'm with everyone else, while Belize is poor, I found it to be full of unspoiled beauty once you got out of Belize City. I also found the people and the food to be absolutely wonderful!

You know this reminds me of something said to me when I remarked about how a certain country had nothing. What the person (rightly) said to me was "it's not that we have so little -- it's that you have so much!"

 

To the OP, give that one some thought. It puts things into perspective quite nicely. Just because they are poor doesn't mean we shouldn't visit. Ugly -- I don't think so; you'll find the beauty if you actually look. Those caves that we went to when we were in Belize took my breath away with their beauty. And dirty -- this is true for so many places and other countries but I know Belize isn't ALL dirty. Again that trip to the caves was definitely not dirty nor was the countryside to get there.
