Gma&Gpa Posted May 23, 2009 #1 Share Posted May 23, 2009 We're booked on the Dream for the very back of the ship - Main Deck. Is the noise from the engines going to be too much??
MrPete Posted May 24, 2009 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2009 The engines are actually under the funnel.
Gma&Gpa Posted May 24, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted May 24, 2009 Thanks... I had no idea that was the case. Then I guess the back end won't be a problem.
MrPete Posted May 24, 2009 #4 Share Posted May 24, 2009 It sounds like Niagara back there with all the water gushing.
firefly333 Posted May 24, 2009 #5 Share Posted May 24, 2009 Back of Main deck we had a noticable vibration. I think it was the side thrusters or whatever it is that makes the ship go sideways. You will feel a obvious vibration, it just isnt from the engine.
unklez Posted May 24, 2009 #6 Share Posted May 24, 2009 Depends upon the kind of ship, the age of the ship, the location of the room etc. but I'd like to believe that the cruise-line would be upfront of a significant issue like engine noise. You will feel a obvious vibration, it just isnt from the engine. It is caused by prop cavitation. Both the main props and the side thrusters can cause it. cav·i·ta·tion (kv-tshn)n.1. The sudden formation and collapse of low-pressure bubbles in liquids by means of mechanical forces, such as those resulting from rotation of a marine propeller.
