MrBo Posted June 13, 2009 #26 Share Posted June 13, 2009 but the glacier is worth the trip. We spent a couple of hours out there. Only place we saw the "blue ice". The Forest Service center is worth the cheap admission. They had several telescopes and helpful guides to show you what you don't get to see up close anymore. The glacier has receded quite a ways back, but definitely worth a trip. Our ship went to Glacier Bay and there was only one glacier closer - actually in the water. I'd go there again. danilynn17 Posted June 17, 2009 #28 Share Posted June 17, 2009 Also, it will depend on where you dock. Last week we got the dock the farthest away, it was a HIKE to walk to downtown! Red Dog was overrated. My parents had raved about it. Neat atmosphere, but the service was absolutely horrendous. Way understaffed even though there were probably 5 ships in that day. We wanted to eat, but left after our drinks. They were pretty pricey, and the food didn't look great (and not a lot of choices). We heard great things about the Twisted Fish, and would've gone there if we had had time.
tentimecruiser Posted June 17, 2009 #29 Share Posted June 17, 2009 We stopped at Tracy's for some crab. We could have thrown a stone there from our balcony. Great crab! One is enough to share.
