Splendor~Anyone recently off & how much luggage??

Hi,

First cruise in 6 days and I am SO nervous! I am hoping my hubby likes it as he is not into big crowds.

Anyway, I have a family of 5 to pack for...how much luggage is reasonable for each person? We are driving to the port.

And anyone just off the Spendor? How crowded was it? Were the pools/water slide cold in Mexican waters? How was the Splash Park?

Any other tid bits to tell me I would appreciate! Yes, I am nervous but SO excited!!:D

We bring one suitcase each, one carry on and usually one that we check plus a backpack for the medications that are oh so important and camera stuff that I keep with me until we get to the cabin and I can put them in the safe.

We pack light. If the children are smaller sizes, you might even be able to get two children into one larger suitcase.

I would say that is what we actually pack also. I think if we were flying we may pack differently due to the added costs.

Hi,

how much luggage is reasonable for each person?

And anyone just off the Spendor? How crowded was it?

Just off the Splendor. We did one zip-up tote bag each plus the camera bag. That's it! The crew was impressed, and customs just said, "ah, you've cruised before." :) (True, but only once before.)

My tote bag held five shirts, a spare pair of pants, undies for each day, swim shorts, swim top, hoodie, chargers for various electronics in camera bag, toiletries, sunscreen, plastic bags, and another tote bag for bringing home souvenirs. I bought flip-flops on board, but they could have fitted in the bag as well.

My husband's bag was almost same, but he had books and socks instead of extra tote, chargers, sunscreen, and swim top.

The camera bag had cameras, camcorder, Kindle, iPod, lenses, ginger/ibuprofen/etc., and prescription meds. (Crumpler bags are amaaaaazing.)

Of course, this only works if you don't do Elegant Night and if you are willing to re-wear clothes or do laundry if that's not tolerable or possible. We did self-assist debarkation surrounded by people rolling enormous suitcases, and time and again we heard people say they didn't even wear most of their clothes. It's true what everyone says - pack, then take half of it out!

Have an excellent time on the cruise; the Splendor will certainly spoil you! We're not into crowds either, but we didn't start feeling the ship's population until the last couple of days, and even then it was only the teenagers. (It seemed like the parents gave up on supervision around that time, but perhaps we were just unlucky.)

Also, if you're in a spa cabin or getting a spa pass, start enjoying it early on. They run some specials at the end that get more people into the thalassotherapy pool/thermal suite, and more people with spa access seem to remember that they need to use it before the cruise ends. We usually had the (awesome!) thalassotherapy pool to ourselves for the first four days, but the last two or three was really crowded. (And then one day it was broken and trying to boil everyone like lobsters, but that's another story!)

We just went on the Conquest in May and of course we overpacked. Neways we didn't wear hardly any of our clothes. Clothes wise, take short/capris and tshirts with a couple of double duty blouses that would be nice enough to wear to dinner but not so nice you couldn't wear them about all day. If you're on a 6/7 night cruise, their will be 2 formal nights. You'll need to decide how dressy you want to be and if you want to attend both nights.

My husband and I took 2 larger carry ons, plus a hanging bag and a toiletries bag. Next time I think we're going to try to take smaller carry ons and only the hanging bag with a foldable tote bag for souvenoirs. If you can bring all your toiletries as travel size - that way they take up less room in your luggage and you can just throw them away. We did this with quite a few items and it afforded us more room in our luggage to fit all our souveniers.

Shoes are the hardest thing - try to work your wardrobe around 1 pair of shoes, wear your tennis/walking shoes onboard and bring a pair of flip flops. I had brought 2 exercise outfits and tennis shoes but never ended up wearing them. All their group fitness classes were so early in the morning that I never could get up to go. I just went swimming and walked the ship and stairs a lot for exercise.

Oh one more thing, bring a water bottle for everyone if you can. It's convenient to have so you can have water, tea or juice on hand at all times instead of having to refill all the time and travel up to the lido deck. You can buy these on board, if you don't want to fill up your luggage with them. Oh and if you're soda/bottled water drinkers, bring some aboard with you and store them in your fridge.

You pack your children in suitcases?

My husband and I each have a carry on, then we check a 24" bag which is almost empty on the way there and pretty full coming home (my husband is the shopper). I was worried too, if my husband would like it, but the fact that he doesn't have to deal with a rental car and navigate in a strange city sold him on cruising. Not to mention there is a casino on board!

My DW & I were on the Splendor on June 14th, to Canada. The weather outside was pretty chilly, but they kept the roof closed over the main pool & it was used quite a bit. I also saw alot of people using the water slide, they looked pretty cold but they kept going down the slide.

I am down to one roll on/under seat size bag and a small duffell. Carry on and Carry off. It is so much simpler and quicker. Only thing added for debarkation is a booze box from the on board purchase. Everthing just straps to the roll on and off I go. Might even be able to do without the duffell next trip. I get a little better at the packing thing each trip.
