Perhaps some of you familiar with the Seattle area can be of assistance. We are arrivng early on Aug 30 at Seattle airport and have a private shuttle taking us to Pier 91. Can any of you recommend a wine/liquor store where we stop and pick up champagne on the way to the pier?

Really would appreciate any suggestions!

I don't know of any specialty stores on the way to Pier 91 but there probably are some. Champagne is available at grocery stores in Seattle so that may be your best bet although the selection and price will certainly vary. QFC generally carries a better selection than some stores (and a higher price). You might find something you'd like at the QFC on Mercer which is probably on the way to the terminal or at the Magnolia QFC which is near the terminal (not walking distance). Ask the driver about these or other suggestions.

We left out of Seattle last May. We came in a day before leaving on Star Princess. There was a grocery a block away from where we were staying. We were able to get wine & beer at the grocery. I believe it was Metro Mkt. Maybe when you stop for your wine or champagne, you'll be able to pick up some flowers. They are absolutely beautiful! Even at the grocery, not just at Pike's Mkt. Your driver should know of a place to stop that's on the way.

I always check out the Costco locations between the airport and the pier. I know I'll have a good selection at a good price. Also, SEA-TAC has a nice wine shop right in the airport. I always buy there for my Whittier emarkations.

Costco for cheap bubbles, Pike and Western Wine Merchants for specialist selections, Metropolitan Market or Fred Meyer for upmarket / mass-market respectively. Costco is a five-minute detour from the airport to the pier, each way, Pike & Western is a two-minute backtrack off the viaduct on the way to the pier, Metro Market is probably a five-minute detour each way and the Fred Meyer in Ballarg is like 3.2 miles from the pier.

In Washington, beer and wine are sold at grocery stores, Costco, etc. Hard liquor is only sold in state run liquor stores. There are a couple of Safeway stores nearby as well as a QFC and Metropolitan Market.

Our Costco in CA routinely has Veuve Cliquot, Dom Perignon and other high-end Champagnes, not just "cheap bubbles" (but for value, it's hard to beat Roederer Estate sparkling wine from CA).

Sunday sales are fine in grocery stores and wine merchants, and some state liquor stores are also open.

I shouldn't disparage Costco - I meant "low-priced decent mass-market bubbles" - Veuve, etc. ALthough, surprisingly, the Kirkland Signature Champagne is really quite drinkable and a decent enough value.

I'm also remiss in not mentioning Esquin Wine Merchants on 4th, just north of Costco a mile or so. They have an exceptional selection.

The is a place called Seattle Wine Outlet. It is right on Elliott Ave W which is the street that you go on to get to pier 91. It is like 5 min from the pier. Your driver will be going right by it, so you can ask him to stop. I passed it every weekend to pick my mom up who works at the pier. Their web address is http://www.seattlewineoutlet.com. On their website they have their retail locations. You want the interbay location .

Hope this helps.
