cecil1 Posted August 26, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 26, 2009 Hello, watching CNN last night they are predicting that this swine flu will be particularily virulent in South America. Knowing that when Mexico was closed to cruises most lines hung around the Pacific Northwest, I'm wondering if anyone has heard of Oceania making plans should S.America have a similar problem. Any information you have would be welcome.
cecil1 Posted August 27, 2009 Author #2 Share Posted August 27, 2009 I'm replying to myself, as no one else seems to be concerned. No one else has concerns about South America being shut down to cruises this winter? It happened all spring/summer in Mexico, and the guests were just shuttled around to any place that would take them. I would like any advice from people that are vigilant about where they end up! I am. Thanks
Rare LHT28 Posted August 27, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 27, 2009 It could be like the SARS outbreak in 2003 they deal with it as it happens Everyone is more alert to the possibility of a pandemic but ... If the S.A. ports shut down to cruise ships/air travel there is not a lot people can do about it nor the cruise lines. It may or may not happen. All the ports & Caribbean islands may close down as well to tourism. They may have a contingency plan but where would they go if the World shuts down. We can only hope this does not happen check this thread out http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1047441 Just my 2 cents Lyn
wripro Posted August 27, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 27, 2009 If you haven't already done so I would certainly buy travel insurance.
Leonid Posted August 27, 2009 #5 Share Posted August 27, 2009 Rather than cruise this December, DW & I are going to Neuvo Vallarta. Can't worry about that which one can not control. Will get the necessary flu shots. Enjoy life while you can.
paulista1950 Posted August 30, 2009 #6 Share Posted August 30, 2009 "that this swine flu will be particularily virulent in South America" Swine flu WAS particularly virulent in South America until two weeks ago. It's still spreading out, but in a lesser way, because we are 21 days from spring and temperatures are rising. Predictions are it will ease a lot as summer approach (it starts in December!);).
