  1. Nice!! I read somewhere Zaandam's Penthouse x 2 powder rooms got redone also in her most recent Haeju drydock
  2. Absolutely no prob! You take care and be safe in beautiful Melbourne, Oz land!
  3. Just a heads up; that particular quote of mine was directed at Poster Despegue from Belgium, a Boeing 747 (among others) airline captain 😉 I somehow seriously doubt that Captain van Hoogdalem is reading this fascinating thread
  4. We will have to agree to disagree on that one! I worked a full 3-month contract for Captain Oebele "Wouter" van Hoogdalem on Zuiderdam. One of the best captains I've worked for. Prior to that one, he was my immediate boss as staff captain on the Volendam
  5. Johan van Oldenbarnevelt 😉 (14 September 1547 – 13 May 1619) was a Dutch statesman and revolutionary who played an important role in the Dutch struggle for independence from Spain. He is generally considered as one of the greatest and most important political figures in the history of The Netherlands
  6. Agreed! Kristine (standing, 2nd from the right) is one of the best!
  7. Try a fast food joint for their latest uptick in pricing! ðŸĪŠ That is to say, at least here in Cali
  8. Save travels home, Brian and Michelle and many thanks / dankjewel for the as always outstanding travel blog! I know you have a very loooooong way to get home from Port Everglades! 😉 Drive careful and have three safe flights!
  9. Just a very minor correction for the institute: More than likely dragged to the main galley where you will be made to peel potatoes for 12 hours under the supervision of Schatzie, a former DDR shot-putter under Erich Honecker. There are no longer brigs on the dam ships! There used to be, usually on A-Deck all the way forward by the paint store, for various aroma purposes. A one person, padded affair with a single bed, all painted in "calming" light mustard. I have a pic somewhere; will attempt to drag it up for trivial purposes 😉
  10. 01-04 November 1991 - Royal Caribbean Cruise Line (RCCL then) - ms Viking Serenade (a converted Scandinavian car ferry) It was known as a "booze cruise" due to the very short itinerary for a grand total of 292 nautical miles Fri - L.A. (San Pedro) Sat - Avalon, Catalina Island (tendering) Sun - Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico Mon - L.A. (San Pedro) We had an inside cabin, so not even a port hole. Didn't matter, we were hooked on cruising from that day on! The captain was a Swede by the name of Thomas Wildung The cruise director was someone by the name of Paul Grayson First stop; Avalon, Catalina Island is always nice! We wound up renting a golf cart (no "regular" cars allowed on the island for residents and/or visitors) to tour Avalon on our own using a map. Maria was the navigator and did one heck of a job not getting us to Hilo, Hawaii Ensenada was next. What is there to do in Ensenada you may ask: well, not mucho except if you're into shopping for leather, blankets, sombreros, Chicklets chewing gum, etc., visiting Hussong's Cantina or, wait for it, La Bufadora aka "the blowhole"
  11. Easy peasy; next up the ladder: go to her boss, the restaurant operations manager, and ask him/her why the Canaletto Mngr. is not doing her job which is first politely and professionally giving a heads up to a guest whose actions are distracting from the enjoyment of the restaurant by other guests
