Jeffrey1950 Posted June 18, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 18, 2017 What time do you suggest be at the Terminal when sailing on the Queen Mary 2 from New York to the Caribbean in November? Also, obviously it will be rather cold first couple of days out what do you suggest is suitable for a female to bring to wear for these days? Are the Dining rooms cool or warm for that time of year, it has been my experience on other cruise lines the Dining Room is usually cool. Thanks !! cruiserking Posted June 18, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 18, 2017 Boarding QM2 in Brooklyn, typically begins at noon. But, it's always a good idea to get there around 10:30 am to beat the rush. This way, the terminal will be mostly quiet, you can check-in get your sail card, then wait in the terminal area for boarding to begin. It usually cool in the lounges and restaurants. It's a good idea to bring sweaters and warm clothes for the first day or so. Usually, by the evening of the first full sea day you feel the balmy Southern breezes as you cruise toward Florida. Have a great cruise on the QM2. Jonathan
Salacia Posted June 18, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 18, 2017 Hi Ms. Jeffery. Regarding the best time to arrive at the Red Hook Terminal, opinions vary, as discussed on this thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2509684 Experiences vary, but I've never seen embarking passengers allowed through security before the ship is zeroed out, with the exception of passengers who are doing a back-to-back without going ashore - in which case they must disembark, but are permitted to wait in the terminal 'lounge'. BklynBoy8 Posted June 19, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 19, 2017 Dear Jeffrey1950 I do agree with Salacia's suggestion about not arriving at the terminal too early. We even live a stones throw away from the terminal and do not arrive till about 11:15-20AM. Enter the Terminal, Go thru Security, Directed to Check In Desk and then enter the Lounge, accounting for others on line, we would not enter the Lounge till about 11:40. So now it's only 20 minutes to wait till the Noon Time hour, if the ship is cleared then. Have to remember, you still have the rest of the day on board to enjoy...Why not start the cruise experience calm and collect.. We will all eventually board the ship we are booked on. Underwatr Posted June 19, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 19, 2017 Conversely, if you wait until after 2:00 or so you will have avoided the crush of people who feel a need to arrive at 10:30 and wait for boarding to begin.
