libbyloo47 Posted February 17, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 17, 2012 Hope i am on the right board to ask this question. Can any one please help. My partner and i are booked on a cruise to Alaska in June 2012. The dog sleigh and helicopter ride sounds like fun, can any one tell me if they loved it. We are also going on an excursion on a sea plane, this should also be great. Best regards from libbyloo47.:)
CFD130 Posted February 17, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 17, 2012 We didnt do the sled dog thing but we did do the helicopter/Glacier tour in Juneau. It was unbelievable. The scenery was beautiful and landing and walking on a glacier is a once in a lifetime experience JMHO

Rare Woobstr112G Posted February 17, 2012 #4 Share Posted February 17, 2012 We did both while cruising on X back in 2005. The helicopter ride to the glacier was cool. The dog sled ride was fantastic. We actually took turns in mushing our own sled.....:):):) Bob
kitty9 Posted February 17, 2012 #5 Share Posted February 17, 2012 I much preferred the dog sledding than the helicopter ride. Lots more fun.

Rare Hlitner Posted February 17, 2012 #7 Share Posted February 17, 2012 We did the dog sled/copter tour in Juneau several years ago while on a Crystal Cruise. Although we were very hesitant to take this excursion because of the price, a good friend convinced us it was worth every penny. He was correct! We got somewhat lucky because the weather was perfect (crystal clear and in the mid-60s at Juneau) which made for a wonderful helicopter ride over several glaciers on our way to the dog sled camp which was high on Juneau Glacier. Driving the dog sleds was tons of fun and the dogs were amazing athletes. The lead dog on our team was the lead dog on one of the top finshers in the Iditarod and quite a few Iditarod dogs were in summer training at that camp. SadieN Posted February 18, 2012 #8 Share Posted February 18, 2012 It was great. We even were able to 'drive' the dog sleds ourselves for a bit. Oddest thing we saw was a gal wearing a miniskirt. They will give you special boots to wear. Your stuff goes into a locked box.
