We are sailing in MSC PREZIOSA next august, and we want visit Rome in our own...

The port web says that from July 17 th , the free shuttle bus makes some new stops in orden to visit the new Villagio del Gusto , near the old stop close to Forte Michelangelo.

Can anybody confirm it? Could we get that bus stop and get civitavecchia train station from Varco Fortezza exit?

Recent posters have indicated that they entered the port via the old south gate on foot, there's just no vehicular traffic through there any more. It would be nice to have that confirmed by the Port Authority, however.

....continues. ..

Yes, you can walk out and head to the fortress gate and then to the train station of Civitavecchia.

It is about 2 km, you ride in just under 30 minutes.

If you find no luggage and no children and is a sports person could do it, but do not recommend it in case if you have with small children. Consider also that in August the temperature is very high.

Does this mean we no longer exit the port from Via Turco 3? Was that just the temporary port exit? We will arrive in port in September and are confused! It appears now there are multiple stops where we may leave the shuttle? We may decide to explore Civitavecchia itself as the itinerary info in this thread looks good. Our original plan was to find the bus for Tarquinia, but we keep finding different info on where the shuttle leaves us off and where we would find the bus for Tarquinia. Exploring Civitavecchia itself is looking like a good bet. (We have been to Rome many times.) All advice is welcomed!

The free shuttle bus continues leves us off at Largo della Pace. You can go walking, from here to the Catedral, where the bus to Tarquinia stops. From Piazza Vittorio Emanuele (Cathedral) you can get a COTRAL bus line bound for Tarquinia (Barriera S.Giusto) that will drop you within walking distance.Take a look COTRAL website to check timetables. .

You can reach Tarquinia by train.

Take the train (bound for Pisa Centrale/Grosseto - € 1.50) and get off after one stop at Tarquinia (Museum). In front of the entry to the Museum leaves a free shuttle bus to the Necropolis (Historic Center - valverde Line B-D).

There isn't a set timetable for the shuttle bus: it runs approximately every 20/30 from 9.15 to 12.10 and from 16.00 to 19.20. For bus timetables refer to the*official site. Coming back from Tarquinia Station you will only have to get the first train bound for Civitavecchia/Roma Termini. For train timetables refer to theTrenitalia site

Thank you, ganigani, for your kind help. May we assume that in looking at the map of Civitavecchia port, depending on time of day, for exploring the town sites of Civitavecchia itself during a port stop, it would be better to depart the shuttle near the fortress? I see on the map there is a shuttle bus picture at "Porto Livorno". Should I assume we may not get off the shuttle there?

From looking on the website, the shuttle drops off at the via turco shuttle bus stop and then drops off behind the old fortress . This only applies for ships that dock at piers ten to thirteen where the majority of cruise ships dock on the western side of the port (the side to the left of the old fort) . If your ship docks on the other side of the port, the shuttle bus only goes to via turco. For the train station, you will want to get off at the old fort as that is the closest shuttle bus stop, there is also the villago del gusto at the old fort where you can buy traditional Italian food/ drinks

Between 11.30 to 14.30 the shuttle bus stops at the Bramante car park at the old fortress and then proceeds to via turco afterwards, at other times, the old fort is the last shuttle bus stop before the buses return to the cruise ships

First at all, take a look this site to check where your ship docks

http://www.portidiroma.it/en/content/ship-arrivals-and-departures

Some cruises dock at pier 25, but most of them the dock at piers 12 -13.

We are travelling on MSC Preziosa. This ship has embarking/desembarking passengers in almost all ports of call and arrives on Sunday and docks at pier 12 bis.

If your ship docks at pier 25, the shuttle bus goes directly to Largo de la Pace - Via del Turco.

If your ship docks at piers 10-13..the shuttle bus goes to Largo della Pace, also ; and in the way back it stops at Molo del Bicchiere*(Villaggio del Gusto) .

And only from 11:30 to 14:30 there is an intermediate bus stop between Terminal Cruise and Largo della Pace, called "Bramante" (near Varco Fortezza , the old bus stop) .
