Uber to Tri Rail To FLL?

Group of 8 coming off cruise in Miami and flying out of Ft Lauderdale. We were all going to take the shuttle @ $15 pp which is $120.

We have time, and don't mind taking the Tri-Rail, it's just getting to Tri-Rail that is the hold up.

Uber gives a first ride booked with the app for free (up to $30), so here is my thinking:

Take Uber from the port to the closest Tri-Rail station which would either be the airport or the stop after that. From there, it's $5 pp to the airport.

Any thoughts on this?

Sounds doable, but is a little complex!

Uber, or minivan/suv cab, to Government Center (two miles from PortMiami), where you can then take MetroRail north to the Tri-Rail station. Remember that you will need to take the FLA 1 shuttle from the Dania Beach Station to your terminal at FLL.

seems like a lot of aggravation to save ten bucks.

Another option is to take Uber to FLL.
