Ine -- thank you for your prompt reply.

We are 4 adults needing to go from the ship to Dam square. Would a taxi be easier? Do you know if taxi's are available at dock?

Plenty of cabs, but some of them arenot very keen on short drives unfortunately.

If you have a map of Amsterdam (most of the times the tourist board is inside the terminal to promote Amsterdam) an interesting walk is through the RLD.

We will be staying at the Park Inn Radisson airport hotel the night prior to our Gate 1 river cruise.

Is the hotel shuttle and train the easiest way to get into the central station?

Is the docking. area for river cruises near the central station?

If not how do you recommend we travel to the port?

We will be 4 adults with 3 or 4 largish suitcases so I suspect we won't all fit in a taxi. Are there other options?

Thanks

Indeed the combination hotelshuttle and train is a good way to get to Central Station. However be aware you have to put your luggage into and from the train yourself while passengers are getting into and off the train the same time. Luggage storage isnot always great in trains, stay with your luggage at all times. Donot travel during rushhours.

Cab will be your other option, check the cost with your hotel, expect to pay around E. 50,- or more if your get a van.

Rivercruises dock in the vicinity of Centraal Station, some of them a bit too far to walk. Absolutely check where your ship will dock

What time is considered rush hour in Amsterdam? Also, do you just drag all your luggage onto the train? ; are they crowded? Is this a normal thing people do there?

Rushhour is weekdays between 7 and 9. Then trains will be crowded. After that is better. Yes just drag luggage into train yourself. Never leave anything without supervising this. Be etra aware of all this during stops, pickpockers love those moments. Some trains have 1 or 2 steps to get in/out.
