Mudhen Posted February 24, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2017 We are on a Med cruise aboard the Silver Spirit. One of our ports is Taormina. Is a shuttle offered into town? Where exactly has SilverSea docked (tendered?) in the past. Trying to get a handle on whether it's necessary to take a shore excursion, or can we just walk around town on our own? UKCruiseJeff Posted February 24, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 24, 2017 (edited) Yes. You're normally bussed a short drive to the ground floor of a multi-story car park. You take the lift to the top floor and the entrance to the town is on your right a few feet away. Sit at the front of the bus if you can so you're first in the lift! ;) Multi-story car park. You walk all the way through the town on one main central street passing the town square .... ...... to the furthest exit to the town passing an ancient ampitheatre towards the far end and another wall and exit out of the old part of the town. It's a lovely old town for lunch and a walk and I don't think an excursion elsewhere is worhwhile. You won't need a guided tour for the town. Google for pictures and a town plan. UKCruiseJeff Posted February 24, 2017 #5 Share Posted February 24, 2017 Hope you both enjoy Taormina. If you happen to be Simple Minds fans Jim Kerr built and owns Villa Angelina which is good for lunch.
